The Jackson Ambulance Service is pushing back against what it calls serious misinformation about its emergency response operations. In a statement released Wednesday, EMS Chief Grant Landbo said the service is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and responds immediately to all 911 calls within its service area, as required by state law. Landbo emphasized that the Jackson Ambulance Service has never denied pre-hospital care to anyone and will not do so in the future, regardless of circumstances. The statement says the department’s commitment to compassionate and professional emergency medical care for residents, workers, and travelers in Jackson and surrounding communities is unwavering and should not be questioned. Chief Landbo added that when the community needs ambulance services, crews will respond immediately. The full statement is available through the City of Jackson’s official communication channels.

The Windom City Council approved plans for this year’s Citywide Clean-Up Day at its meeting on the 3rd. Council members set the event for Saturday, May 16th, with Hometown Sanitation handling curbside pickup throughout the city. The schedule will mirror the past two years, allowing up to ten bulky items at the curb, with smaller items dropped off at Tegels Park with proof of residency. The drop-off site will be open from 7 a.m. until noon. The council also approved continuing a seven-dollar city subsidy for the first two mattress or box spring recycling tags, with curbside pickup provided by the county at a total cost of $17 per item. Electronics and appliance recycling will be available through Cottonwood County recycling events in April and October, or year-round at the county landfill.

Firearms deer hunting in Minnesota will look different starting in the fall of 2026. Last year, state lawmakers approved the use of high-powered rifles statewide during the firearms deer season. However, counties still have the option to restrict hunting to shotguns only, as they have in the past. That decision is now up for discussion in Cottonwood County. County commissioners will hold two public hearings on Wednesday, February 11, to gather public input. The meetings are set for 3 and 6 p.m. in the basement conference room at the Law Enforcement Center in Windom. Hunters and residents are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts before any local decision is made.

So I REALLY don’t want to be political but today is National Lame Duck Day.. I’ve heard the term I’ve used the term but never really researched the term… National Lame Duck Day, is celebrated every February 6th, this day observes the day the 20th Amendment was passed, reducing what’s known as the congressional lame-duck period or the weeks between the congressional elections and their inauguration day. During this time, elected officials on their way out of office tend to have less clout and are just waiting for their term to end, thus, they are considered lame ducks. And all this time I was using the term wrong… Maybe it is also National Bubblegum Day for a reason… I mean if you really aren’t doing much what is more fun then sitting around chewing bubblegum? Blowing bubbles and waiting for the bubble to explode and if you are lucky enough it won’t get in your hair! Don’t be a lame duck! Cease the day and enjoy the sunshine!
