Windomnet is inviting all local TV subscribers to a public informational meeting TONIGHT at 6pm, as the city is preparing to shut down its cable TV system at the end of the year.  The informational meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Senior Dining Room of the Windom Community Center located at 1750 Cottonwood Lake Drive, and it’s free and open to everyone. Windomnet staff will walk customers through how to use the city’s new streaming TV service, including how to set up a smart TV or Roku device, how the new channel packages work, and what equipment is needed. There will also be time for questions. City officials say the meeting is especially important because the preferred deadline to sign up for the new streaming service is December 12th. Anyone who signs up earlier is less likely to experience delays. The current cable TV system will shut down December 31st, meaning customers who do not update their accounts will see their video service disconnected. And for those who don’t choose their own data package, Windomnet will automatically move all data-only customers to a new 100-megabit plan starting January 1st. That plan offers faster speeds but comes at a higher cost as older packages are being phased out. Windomnet officials say the goal of the meeting is to make the transition to streaming as smooth and stress-free as possible, and they encourage all customers, especially those unfamiliar with streaming, to attend.
