UPDATE: PRESS RELEASE- Cottonwood County Sheriff Jason Purrington released the following Press Release this afternoon. On April 17th, 2024, at approximately 1125 hrs., while conducting our search on Eagle Lake, we located the missing juvenile. The juvenile was located in approximately 4.5 ft. of water. The juvenile was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiners Office. Further information will be released on Thursday. Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota DNR, Mt Lake Fire Department and the Windom Fire Department.

Search and Recovery efforts continue according to Cottonwood County Sheriff, Jason Purrington. A 15-year-old was canoeing with a family member on Eagle Lake, when he lost his paddle and went into the lake to retrieve it. While trying to swim back to shore, the family member lost sight. The rain and lightening were causing some hinderance in the effort. Assisting Cottonwood County Sheriffs Department is Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Mountain Lake Fire, Ambulance and Police Departments, The Windom Fire and Police Departments, The Minnesota DNR and the Minnesota State Patrol.

Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 11th at 7:05pm a deputy was dispatched to County Road 17 for a verbal domestic. Deputies stood by as the girlfriend loaded up her belongings and then left. On the 12th at approximately 3:38 pm Deputies assisted the Windom Police Department with a no-injury accident at the intersection of Toro and 16th Street in Windom. On the 13th, at approximately 2:27am a deputy went to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 60 (eastbound) at 550th Avenue just west of Mountain Lake. A 2015 Black Ford Fiesta driven by 37-yaer-old male from Lewisville MN was driving eastbound in the right lane and did not see a tractor pulling a planter driven by a 48-year-old male from St Peter until it was too late, and he ran into the back of the implement. The Fiesta seemed to be totaled with the front end receiving extensive damage and the airbags deployed. Both drivers denied being hurt and did not need medical assistance.

The Jeffers City Council met on the 8th. The Council read and discussed the contract for an engineering service proposal from Pinpoint Engineering regarding the new Fire Hall. The Council, City Attorney and Auditing Firm Burkhardt & Burkhardt proposed the following questions for the proposal: • Trees • Site Preparation • Local Contractors for inside work • Water/Sewer • Storm Drains • Building Drainage in which Lance Holmen, Maintenance, reported he had not heard back about the pump at sewer pond. Approval for the contract was tabled until questions and concerns can be addressed.

According to Women of Today Member Kelly Vlieger, pre- Covid they were collecting 100 units and would love to get back to those numbers. Moms who live in Minnesota are invited to join a free virtual fishing challenge during Take a Mom Fishing Weekend (May 11-12), when Minnesota moms can fish without purchasing a fishing license.
To participate in the challenge, moms simply need to join the Facebook group and submit one photo of each fish they catch. All participants who submit a fish will be entered in a random drawing for prizes provided by the Student Anglers Organization and their partners, including SCHEELS and Lund gift cards. Before the challenge begins, participants are invited to tune in for a pre-challenge virtual Fishing 101 hosted by Women Anglers of Minnesota, covering topics like gear, how to set up gear and techniques to get started fishing.
The 2024 Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge is a collaboration between the Minnesota DNR, Student Anglers Organization (studentangler.org) and Women Anglers of Minnesota (womenanglersmn.com).
