Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department released the following Press Release earlier this morning.

On Monday, April 15th, at approximately 6:43pm, Cottonwood County Dispatch received a call about a 15-year-old male who was canoeing with a family member on Eagle Lake. While canoeing, the juvenile male jumped in the lake to retrieve a lost oar. The juvenile male attempted to swim back to the canoe; however, the wind had pushed the canoe farther away from him. A search of the shoreline and lake was conducted. The search was suspended at approximately 2 am on April 16th.

Recovery efforts continued after sunrise this morning. The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Mountain Lake Fire, Ambulance and Police Department, the Windom Fire and Police Department, Minnesota DNR and State Patrol.
