Minnesota residents are encouraged to seize the opportunity to claim their tax relief rebates before the approaching deadline. The rebate amount varies based on filing status, income, and the number of dependents. Joint filers with an income below $150,000 can receive $520 while single filers and other filers making $75,000 or less qualify for a $260 rebate. Additionally, taxpayers can claim $260 for each dependent, up to a maximum of three dependents, allowing families to receive a total of $1,300. Recipients should note, the Minnesota Department of Revenue confirmed that the rebate will NOT be taxable income for state taxes. However, the IRS has not clarified whether the rebate will be subject to federal taxation. Eligibility will be determined based on the information from 2021 tax returns, and the DOR will handle the issuance of payments accordingly. It’s essential to be aware that there is no appeals process for the tax rebate, and taxpayers cannot track the payment status using the “Where’s My Refund?” system. Remember to submit any necessary updates to your address or banking information by Friday July 28th to ensure you receive your entitled rebate amount. Visit the DOR Online Portal for more information.

The Weather is heating up, but it is cool paddling at Cottonwood Lake. According to Windom Area Chamber Director, Emily Cenzano, the Kayaks are seeing some good action this summer. Just last weekend there were 12 unique checkouts, and a total of approximately 40 for the summer. Emily went on to say that the kayaks are usually available from Memorial Day to Labor Day but due to some technical issues they weren’t available until June 29th this summer.

Kayaks are located at Cottonwood Lake and are for the public’s use. It’s easy to use the kayaks. If you have your smart phone there is a QR Code that you can scan at the cages of the kayaks, this will take you to an information and waiver page. Once you have agreed to the terms of use you will be given a code to unlock the cage and remove your kayak. Emily stated the kayaks are available on a first come first serve basis. There isn’t an age limit per say, but there are weight restrictions. There are 3 adult kayaks available and one youth kayak available to be checked out. Life jackets are a requirement, and all children should have adult supervision. Lifeguards are not available at Cottonwood Lake. The kayaks are to remain at Tegels Park and not moved to use on other bodies of water. Please remember after accessing the kayaks to shut the gate during use and after.
