Today is the last day to file for offices. If you want your name on the ballot in November make up your mind no later than 5pm. Don’t forget to get out and vote in the Primary Election polls are open till 8pm.

Windom City Council met on the 6th. The Council approved a request for a proposal to seek auditing firms for either three fiscal years ending December 31st 2024, 2025 and 2026 and a second proposal for the five fiscal years ending December 31st 2024 through 2028 in addition to performing other reports and reviews as required by Minnesota State Statutes to be submitted for review no later than noon on Friday, September 13th. The Council then approved to use the current remaining balance of the ARPA Funds of $66,144.35 for the Fire Department to purchase a wildland truck and the remaining amount to go to the Street Department for a new insect fogger. The ARPA Fund Account will be closed out upon these purchases.  Mayor Dominic Jones announced he would like to  appoint Kim Pillatzki to the Hospital Board. Kim brings experience and will be a great addition to the Board. The Council approved this nomination.

Farmfest Woman of the Year has been named. Kristen Uderman of Sartell was chosen as the Woman Farmer of the Year. There were five woman vying for the title. Melissa Runck of Avoca, Erica Goette of Bricely, Marles Lange of Windom and Jane Imker of Lamberton. All five women had excellent qualifications. Congratulations to all that were nominated and to Uderman for receiving the title.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced Individuals and Businesses in the following Counties in our listening area- Cottonwood, Faribault, Jackson, Nobles, Rock, and Watonwan that were affected by the recent severe storms and flooding will get extra time to file Minnesota returns and pay Minnesota taxes. For a full listing of all 19 counties you can go to www.revenue.state.mn.us

The Cottonwood County Ditch Authority met on the 6th. The Ditch Authority moved to adopt the Cottonwood County Drainage Manual with minor revisions as discussed.

Operation Round Up applications

(Jackson, MN) — Fall in line for Operation Round Up time! The next deadline is September 27 for Operation Round Up funds from Federated Rural Electric’s Trust Board.

Operation Round Up involves 74 percent of Federated’s members in Jackson and Martin Counties; they allow their monthly electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar amount. The “rounded up” change goes into a trust fund. An independent Trust Board, which consists of Federated members, evaluates local funding requests and distributes the funds.

Since 1995 Federated’s Trust Board has distributed more than $937,000 to local organizations including senior dining, hospice, fire/ambulance departments and high school scholarships.

Organizations that serve Federated members in Jackson or Martin Counties can request funds for projects involving:

• community service • community leadership programs

• disaster relief • environmental programs

• youth education • emergency-energy assistance.

Federated is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative serving 5,300 members in Jackson and Martin Counties.
