Windom Police Department reported on the 7th at 3:58pm an officer was dispatched to River Road for reports of a man wearing a yellow jacket walking down the road who appeared to be intoxicated. While driving down River Road, the officer spotted the man laying on an electrical box. After making sure the man was okay and further investigation, an arrest was made of a 48-year-old male from Westbook for a violation of his probation, after he took a preliminary breath test showing alcohol use/consumption. This case was forwarded to Probation.

Time is ticking and if you are thinking about filing to serve for city offices or school boards, tomorrow August 13th is the deadline. According to City of Windom Finance Director/Controller, Donna Torkelson interested individuals have until 5pm to file to get their name on the November Ballot. There is a $5 filing fee that needs to be paid at the time of registering. As of this broadcast The Mayor of Windom Position is Open and there are three filers. Dominic Jones- Current Mayor and challenging are Jenny Quade who currently holds a Ward 1 Council Seat, and Hilary Mathis.
There is also an opening for Council Seat for Ward 1 as Councilman Marv Grunig has stated he will not seek re-election. Thus far, two individuals have filed to vie for this seat- Jayesun Sherman and Nathaniel Bjorklund. Councilman Scott Benson will run again for his seat and be challenged by Loren Liepold. Windom City Council met on the 6th EDA Director Tiffany Lamb spoke to the council about Individual Assistance and Public Assistance from FEMA. The Individual Assistance has been approved for all of Cottonwood County and FEMA has been in the area meeting with people. Tiffany reports FEMA has said the residents have been great to work with. There are three ways to apply for help either online, downloading the app or by calling. All methods are posted on KDOM’s Facebook and Website. Windom Area Health’s donation for additional striping and nets at the tennis court for pickleball courts in the amount of $1,899.98 was accepted. A Large Tariff User Agreement was approved for a large data center also known as Crypto Mining that will be setting up operation on the outside of Windom, within Cottonwood County. This business would be using utilities off of the of City of Windom’s power. They will be purchasing their power off market but the Electric Department will be building a line to their site which the new company will be paying for. There was a discussion concerning if Windom could handle the increase if and when the new owners start up the hog plant. The council was assured the electric department can handle the increase, and that the City is well protected for loads if needed. Councilman Dennis Esplan stated his experience of working with this company was very good and he is impressed with the company as a whole. There is also a estimation that it would possibly employee 2-5 people. This company will be bringing another revenue source to the City of Windom.
