The Windom Library Board met last week. Library Director Kari Hanson reported a strong October with 3,163 items checked out and more than 500 items sent out through interlibrary loan. Planning is underway for December events, including a well-attended story time, a possible new all-ages art program pending grant funding, and Christmas by Candlelight, scheduled for December 11th with crafts and games. The library is also working to revamp its “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program. The board reviewed its 2026 SMART goals, which focus on reducing overdue items, increasing patron participation in SMS notifications, and expanding outreach. The board also discussed state-required internet filtering to stay in compliance with RLTA funding rules for 2026. State law requires public libraries to restrict access to obscene or harmful online material for minors, and to prohibit adults from accessing illegal content. The board voted to enter an agreement with Plum Creek Library System to provide the necessary filtering through the existing firewall at no cost. The next Windom Library Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9th.
