The City of Windom is moving forward with updated rates and charges for its Telecommunications Enterprise Fund. During last weeks City Council meeting, a resolution was approved establishing new monthly rates for streaming video services through the city’s telecom system. Basic service will be set at $85, while the Expanded package will cost $95. Add-ons such as Starz or Showtime will each be $20 per month, or $25 for a bundle. Bulk rates for larger users and bundle discounts were also approved. Telecom General Manager Jeff Dahna told the council the new pricing structure is part of the city’s transition from the old cable system to streaming. Dahna said, this change allows us to keep offering television service while modernizing how it’s delivered. Councilman Scott Benson raised a key question during the discussion asking whether residents who don’t currently have Windomnet service will be able to access the new streaming platform. Dahna explained that the streaming service is only available to Windomnet customers, meaning residents need internet service through the city to subscribe. According to Dahna, the streaming services are now available to customers. However, an exact shutoff date for the old cable system has not yet been set by the Telecom Board.
