There was an update and discussion with Electric Superintendent Jason Sykora. According to Councilwoman Jenny Quade, he stated that the building project is almost complete and then he addressed questions about the power load of the possible new data center. Jason stated that there is plenty of power to run the city, the data center and future additions. He then drove about a quarter to three quarters of a mile away and the noise became less. Jones stated that he would ask that the decibels for noise be checked to stay in compliance. The Student Exchange Program is going strong in our area and there still is an opportunity to be a part of something that brings the world a little closer together. I know, I know que the song… “I’d like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony… Grow Apple Trees and Honey Bees and Snow White Turtle Doves” BUT by becoming a host family this can become a reality. Windomnite, Jen Guertin is on a mission to finding four more host families for Louna from France, Dario from Spain, Edgar from Germany and Irene from Spain for this Fall. Jen will be hosting for the second year in a row, she was on the fence last year but heard that the student she sponsored had a family lined up but it fell through. Jen said she was nervous because she hadn’t had kids in the home for 20 years and she doesn’t really like to prepare meals BUT it turned out to be the best experience. She loved becoming involved in the community and the school and didn’t realize how much she missed that since her kids were all grown and out of the house. Jen says there are hundreds of kids throughout the world that want to visit the United States and see and live in our culture, attend American High Schools and participate in American activities that in their home countries may not be feasible. Jen went onto say as a host family you get to learn about other cultures and your students family and countries traditions. You get to meet their families through FaceTime and create a bond that will last a life time. It is actually a very easy process to apply for a foreign exchange student. There are applications online and Jen says she feels so strongly about this opportunity for both the student and host family she is more than willing to help fill the application out. Jen said students arrive usually late August and leave about four days after school year is over. Time is a factor at this point because homes must be secured no later than August 31st. Jen stated that cost is a common concern and question. Students come with a monthly allowance from their families to purchase clothes, shoes, jackets, sports fees etc. A safe home environment with a room that has a bed and to be fed meals are basic necessities to be a host family. As a host family you are encouraged to allow your student become involved in the community and join different sports and activities within the school to achieve the full experience. If you think you would be interested in becoming a host family for one of these incredible kids traveling across the world to be immersed in the American Dream please contact Jen Guertin via text or phone call to 909-486-6550 or message her through Facebook Messenger JEN GUERTIN https://www.facebook.com/JSGJV

It’s the song I hear… Let’s get these kids the experience of a lifetime AND lets teach the world to sing In perfect harmony. And hold it in my arms and keep it company. Let’s see the world for once, all standing hand in hand and hear them echo through the hills, for peace throughout the land… Open your hearts and your home!!!!
