Windom Police Department reported on the 27th at 10:17pm an Officer was on patrol on Highway 60 near 8th Street and observed a vehicle with suspicious driving conduct. After initiating a traffic stop and investigation, an arrest was made of a 26-year-old male of St James for Gross Misdemeanor DWI. On the 28th at 9:54pm, an officer was dispatched to a driving complaint leaving the area of Duffy’s Bar and Grill. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 31-year-old male from Windom for Gross Misdemeanor DWI-Test Refusal and Driving After Revocation, pending review by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. On the 29th there was a minor two vehicle accident in the Kwik Trip parking lot. No injuries reported.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported six calls on the 31st. Deputies assisted the Jackson Ambulance with a medical call, took a theft report and responded to a garbage complaint in Alpha. The Lakefield Ambulance and Lakefield Police Department were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident with an injury on MN 86 near 9th Ave S. involving a golf cart and a vehicle. In another accident, a deputy assisted the MN State Patrol with a vehicle in the ditch with injuries on MN 86 at CR 34 south of Lakefield.  The Lakefield Ambulance and Lakefield Fire Dept. also assisted at the scene. A deputy conducted a traffic stop on County Road 34 west of Jackson.  After investigation the driver was issued a citation for Speeding. 74 mph in a 55 mph zone and Driving After Revocation.

Cottonwood County Family Services Collaborative will be hosting the annual Coats for Kids Drive in partnership with UCAP’s Back to School Drive on Tuesday, August 13th from 2pm-5pm at the Windom BARC Building located at 1012 5th Avenue, in Windom. Over the past month, According to Luke Ewald, Public Health Educator/Preventative Health Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) Co-Coordinator for Cottonwood-Jackson and Nobles County Counties, several businesses have boxes for donations which are American Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Runnings, Windom Area Health, Baptist Church, United Methodist Church, the BARC Building (UCAP front office area); Ewald, stated these businesses have been partnering with them over the past years to be donation locations. Ewald went onto say that historically, the coat drive has provided coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, scarves, mittens/gloves, and snow boots; and they do their best to ensure that everyone receives a coat. Ewald sent out a special thanks for donations provided over the past years from United Prairie Banks, Windom American Legion Auxiliary, the BARC -for allowing them to host the event, UCAP who have volunteered at the events, and community residents who’ve donated time and funding to keep this program sustainable. The Back-to-School drive is anticipated to have around 300 backpacks available. The Cottonwood County Family Services Collaborative will do their best to ensure students who are in need will receive a coat. You can still make donations by dropping off at above mentioned businesses by Friday, August 9th. The distribution date is set to be at BARC from 2-5pm on Tuesday August 13th. As I sit here, I am thinking hallelujah it is FINALLY Friday… I don’t know about you BUT this week was just riddled with out of the norm situations that made it seem like a month in a day! Today fittingly is International Beer Day. Yes, every once and awhile I do enjoy a cold beer on a hot day or while unwinding from a long week. I’m not into the dark or IBP’s I just like a plain beer and when I am feeling fancy I like to drop a couple olives in it. That’s where I’ll be tonight, if you find yourself in the same spot, come on over and I’ll share! As an adult, we sometimes put away relaxing easy ways to unwind. When was the last time you pulled out a coloring book and just enjoyed yourself not worrying too much about staying within the lines? Today is the day… It is National Coloring Book Day, come on reach back into your childhood pull out the crayons or pens and enjoy the calmness as the colors bring your black and white picture to life!
