FLOOD is the topic of conversation for today and tomorrow. The river cresting is predicted to be at 1,357.8 feet on Wednesday June 26th. You can search DNR Lake & Flood elevation page or the direct address is https://arcgis.dnr.state.mn.us/ewr/lfeo/lat/43.8848/lng/-95.1427/z/13 this site is an interactive page that allows you to pinpoint locations you are interested in. When looking at the maps, the golden area represents possible flooding by Wednesday Afternoon. It was great to see Senator Bill Weber and Representatives Marj Fogleman and Katie representing for Michelle Fischbach in full force at the Emergency Meeting for the City Council. They are here to help and be a voice and are working closely with our County and City Administration.

The City of Windom Water Department is requesting the public to try to conserve water as we move forward with the ongoing flooding. At this time, there is no threat to the drinking water supply but they did stress that waste water is already backing up into the river and does create concerns with future flooding concerns. Conserving water can be done by cutting back on laundry and dishes and just being mindful and trying to restrict general water usage.

The bridge on County Road 15 by the Windom Country Club was closed last night at 8:30pm according to the Cottonwood County Public Works due to levels now and forecasted levels of the Des Moines River.

The Police Department has issued a warning that motorist may be ticketed for passing through barricades. They are put out for safety reasons and motorist should heed the warning. Also it is VERY IMPORTANT to stay out of standing water. Letting children play around the bridges where water is fast is extremely dangerous. Playing in standing water is not safe for it can contain debris that could be sharp or heavy. Please lets keep our children safe and not have any tradgic accidents because we wanted our kids be kids. Be the adult and just say no.

In cooperation with the Windom Area Schools, a Free Drop-Off Site has been set up at the Windom Area High School west parking lot. Citizens of Windom have the opportunity to drop-off flood damaged debris from their homes like damaged carpet, sheetrock, electronics and appliances. There are currently four roll-offs set up in the parking lot. The site is open from 7:30am to 4pm there is no end date at this time. This again is only available for Windom Residents. You will be required to show ID and state your place of residence. The City Council in their emergency meeting agreed that fees would be waived to the residents but not the City. There is a request to help minimize the impact on the environment and control cleanup costs by separating waste into five different sections.
- Large appliances and electronics: refrigerators, freezers, ovens, dishwashers, air conditioners, furnaces, washing machines, clothes dryers, TVs, computers, monitors.
- Household hazardous waste: Automotive products like gas, antifreeze and oil. Household cleaners like bleach, ammonia, toilet cleaner, oven cleaner and kitchen cleaner. Mercury-containing items like thermometers, thermostats and fluorescent light bulbs. Paint and solvents. Lawn products like fertilizers and pesticides. Other items not suitable for regular trash, like mattresses, gas cylinders, batteries and swimming pool chemicals.
