Windom Fire Department was called out to a grass fire at 39071 490th Avenue, Tuesday evening at 6:10pm. According to Windom Fire Chief Ben Derickson, it was a controlled burn that got away from the people doing it. Fire trucks were on scene at 6:16pm and cleared the scene at 7:12pm. Derickson stated there were no injuries and Windom Ambulance, Windom Police and Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department were all on scene as well.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported a one vehicle injury accident on the 12th. At approximately 4:18pm a 2011 Kia Sorento driven by a 33-year-old female from Butterfield was traveling westbound on Highway 60 near milepost 66 in Saint James Township when she lost control of her vehicle leaving the roadway and rolling coming to rest in the center median. The driver was transported to Saint James E.R with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Other agencies assisting were Watonwan County Sheriff’s Department, St James Fire Department.

The Mountain Lake Police Department reported 9 calls in the week of March 4th to the 10th. An officer handled a stray cat complaint and a talked to parties over a dog complaint. Officers took a report of a missing person who was later found and safe. Officer handled a HRO Violation and conducted a Welfare Check where the person checked out okay. An officer took a damage to property report of tires being slashed on a vehicle and assisted a party that locked themselves out of their house and car. Mountain Lake Police Officers assisted another agency with a driving complaint which they were unable to locate and assisted the Fire Department with a Stove Fire that was extinguished upon arrival.

The Windom Public Library has announced that in cooperation with the Cottonwood County Historical Society, they will be presenting a program lead by  Mary Casanova, an author from Minnesota. This event will be held at the Cottonwood County Historical Society located at 812 4th Ave in Windom

on Thursday, March 21st at 4pm. Casanova is an award-winning children’s author of picture books, children’s chapter books, and young adult novels. Many of her stories stem from her life in the Northwoods, on the Minnesota – Canadian border. All ages are welcome to attend this free presentation. This program is made possible thanks to funding from the Prairieland Library Exchange and the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Women in Ag Day at the Capitol on March 25

  1. PAUL, MN (3/7/2024)— Women from the breadth of Minnesota’s agriculture community are invited to share their stories with legislators and key leaders at the Minnesota State Capitol for Women in Ag Day on Monday, March 25.

Organizers seek to celebrate the role of women in agriculture and raise awareness of issues and challenges they face in their work. All involved with agriculture are encouraged to attend.

“We want to work with legislators and other leaders to help inspire more women to pursue dreams of farming and other ag-related work,” said Susanne Hinrichs, University of Minnesota Extension ag business educator.

The Day at the Capitol on March 25 includes viewing the Senate floor while in session, as well as attending the Senate Ag Committee meeting at 3 p.m. A reception for networking with other participants and leaders will follow. Participants are encouraged to schedule appointments with their legislators during the day. Further information can be found at the website above.

This event is being hosted by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Minnesota Office of Farm Service Agency, and University of Minnesota Extension. A reception is sponsored by Minnesota Farmers Union, Minnesota Farm Bureau, and Minnesota Corn Growers. Participants do not need to be affiliated with any of the host organizations. This event is open to all regardless of gender identity or expression.
