Windom Police Department reported on the 13th at 8:13pm an officer was dispatched to the Riverview Apartments for a suspicious vehicle that had been revving the engine. upon investigation the officer noted the vehicle exhaust was very loud and the officer identified the driver who had slurred speech, watery eyes and an odor of alcohol, the 22-year-old male from Lakefield was arrested for 3rd Degree DWI, a Gross Misdemeanor. On the 14th, officers were called to the 500 block of Drake Avenue for a report of damage to their mailbox that had been hit and bent over.  On the 15th at 12:13 am an officer initiated a traffic stop and while speaking with the four males in the vehicle smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and witnessed a half empty bottle of Corona Beer on the floor, which the rear passenger side passenger admitted it was his. This case was forwarded to the County Attorney’s Office for review of juvenile charges of Underage Consumption on a 17-year-old juvenile male from Windom.

Mountain Lake City Council met on Monday. Chris Webb, SRDC Transportation Planner presented an Active Transportation Grant opportunity. The grant would cover the cost for the infrastructure for a sidewalk, trail, path or bike lane. A proposed trail was discussed on the north side of Prince Street from Golf Course Road moving east until it reached 11th Street. An estimated infrastructure cost was $585,000, which would be paid by the grant, if awarded. The cost to the City would be the engineering fees, estimated at $115,000, in addition to the cost to put the above electrical lines underground. The Council accepted the letter of intent but will determine the circumstances and specifications at the next Council meeting. There was a second reading for Ordinance # 4-23 Electric Service Regulations. The ordinance would be amended by adding E in City Code Section 3.40 Subdivision 3 Electrical installations to read as follows: The City shall require a new meter socket for any new construction or service upgrades to be a minimum of 200 AMP lever type meter bypass. Hiebert Greenhouses did not attend the public hearing that they requested. No comments from the public were expressed during the hearing. The Council will continue the hearing for November 6th and send a letter to Hiebert Greenhouses providing them with notice. The Council approved a change in meetings. Regular meetings of the Council shall be held in the Council Chambers on the 1st Monday and on the 3rd Monday each month at 5:45pm instead of 6:30pm.

With the weather shaping up there is a fun activity down on the square. Check out the story stroll on the Square. Two different stories are located in the windows of businesses on the square. Talk about taking window shopping to a whole new level!! Story one is “Last Stop at Market Street and begins at the Chamber of Commerce. The Second story is “The Big Banana” it starts at the DVHHS office on Ninth Street. The stories each have 20 pages posted in different business windows on the square and are written in both English and Spanish. Grab the kids or your friends and stroll through a story or two this Fall!!!!
