Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 77 calls in the week of August 13th to the 19th. Deputies served 10 Civil Processes, worked 2 Suspicious Activities, had 3 citizen complaints, served 1 warrant, conducted 8 traffic stops and had 2 animal calls. Windom Police Department reported on the 4th at 1:18am an officer observed a vehicle passing him at the intersection of 1st Ave and 6th Street traveling west. The Officer followed the vehicle and observed the vehicle to have no license plate lights function and a broken taillight with a white light to the rear of the vehicle. The Officer initiated a traffic stop in the Kwik Trip parking lot. After investigation, possible charges pending for driving while intoxicated and underage consumption charges on an 18-year-old Windom Male and Underage Consumption on 2 females from Windom ages 16 and 17 pending review by prosecuting attorney’s.

It is already September, and the first official day of Fall is only 3 weeks away on September 23rd. The Annual Fall Fundraiser for the Cottonwood County Historical Society will be held Monday September 11th from 4:30 to 7pm at 812 4th Ave in Windom.. There will be seating available for dining-in or a drive-through option at the south side door located on 8th Street. Tickets for the meal of roast beef on a bun, coleslaw, chips, baked beans, and a cookie is $10 adults and children 10 and under are $5. Tickets can be picked up at the museum prior to the event or at the event. Thrivent Financial is providing supplemental funds for this fundraiser.

The City of St. James Water Department will be flushing dead end water mains during the week of September 25th. City officials say that the water may appear rusty or discolored during the flushing. The water is safe to drink but should not be used for laundry as staining could result. If you have any questions, please call the Water Department at 375-1229 or City Hall at 375-3241.

The next deadline from the Federated Rural Electric’s Trust Board for the Operation Round Up funds is September 22nd. Operation Round Up involves 77 percent of Federated’s members in Jackson and Martin Counties; they allow their monthly electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar amount. The “rounded up” change goes into a trust fund. An independent Trust Board, which consists of Federated members, evaluates local funding requests, and distributes the funds. Organizations that serve Federated members in Jackson or Martin Counties can request funds for projects involving community service, community leadership programs, disaster relief, environmental programs, youth education, emergency-energy assistance. Since 1995 Federated’s Trust Board has distributed more than $866,000 to local organizations including senior dining, hospice, fire/ambulance departments and high school scholarships.
