During the Murray County Board of Commissioners meeting last week, University of Minnesota Extension Regional Director Bonnie Christiansen gave an update that Murray County currently has a 32-40 hour per week county-hired Administrative Assistant for the Extension Office. Due to a recent resignation of this position, the proposal is to move that position to a 32 hour per week University hired position. The current Memorandum of Agreement for the Administrative Support Specialist position is $30.02 per hour for 2023 and increases to $30.77 per hour for 2024. That also includes salary and fringe, milage, full University benefits, meals, and lodging, plus professional development and training, staff supervision, University payroll and accounting services. A motion was made and approved by the Murray County Board of Commissioners to move this position from county hired to extension hired.


The Windom City Council is in the process of submitting an application for federal dollars to help with electrical improvements as part of the Infrastructure Investment Jobs Act. Windom City Administrator Steve Nasby explains the application process… 

Nasby gives information for what that potential money means for Windom… 

Nasby said there were 78 applications nationwide that received an encouraged designation and of those 78, probably only about 20 to 30 of those projects will be funded. The IIJA is an 80% federal grant with 20% local match. Nasby said the City of Windom’s portion will be about $5 million. A motion was made, and the Windom City Council approved the resolution of support for the grant and the agreement for grant application writing services with Frontier Energy, plus allow the Windom City Administrator and Windom Mayor to sign any required paperwork.


On June 8th, 2023, at about 11:11pm, the Minnesota State patrol reports an Iowa man was in critical condition after his vehicle rolled over in Jackson County. He was traveling north on highway 86 when his vehicle left the road and rolled into the ditch sustaining life-threating injuries. According to the report he was not wearing his seatbelt and the Minnesota State Patrol believes alcohol was involved. His injuries were treated at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake, Iowa.


The Mountain Lake Police reported on July 3rd, 2023, an officer assisted another agency with a driving complaint, on July 4th, 2023, an officer assisted another agency with a driving complaint, on July 6th, 2023, an officer checked on a suspicious vehicle-vehicle was unoccupied, an officer made a warrant arrest at a traffic stop, on July 7th an officer assisted another agency with a driving complaint, on July 8th an officer handled a report of a shoplifter, an officer delivered an ordinance violation notice, an officer assisted with a missing kayaker on Mountain Lake-they were found safe, and on July 9th 2023, an officer checked on a pedestrian on the side of the road, it was a hitchhiker who declined help.
