Murray County Board of Commissioners during their meeting Tuesday heard an update from Jean Christoffels about a conditional use permit for the expansion of the Edgewater Bay Campground. The expansion will include 110 new campsites and reactivate 28 inactive sites for a total of 310 campsites in the Agriculture and Shoreland Overlay Districts.  

Christoffels said the Murray County Planning Commission held a public hearing on June 15th, 2023 regarding the conditional use permit… 

Those three special conditions are:  

  1. The permit holder shall comply with all government laws, rules and regulations as they apply to the project. If any state permits are required, a copy of those permits must be submitted to the Murray County Environmental Services Office before operation can commence. 
  2. The conditional use permit may be reviewed annually to ensure the conditions are being met. 
  3. A severe weather safety plan shall be drafted and submitted to the County Emergency Manager that includes evacuation routes, or a plan for providing shelter-in-place, and other procedures to be followed in the event of a severe weather emergency. 

A motion was made and approved by the Murray County Board of Commissioners to approve the Edgewater Bay Campground conditional use permit.


Windom Area Schools are looking at updating their student handbook for the 2023-2024 school year. During the Windom Board of Education work session meeting on Tuesday, High School principal Bryan Joyce said the main area they’re looking to update in the attendance policy… 

Joyce says a student’s learning is affected by whether they are in class or not… 

Joyce said the attendance policy updates to the student handbook are being evaluated with an emphasis on students being physically in class and those changes should be finalized before the start of the new school year so during school orientation in August, the school can communicate with parents on those policy changes.


The City of Mountain Lake is looking at their budget for 2024 and what they could possibly do in the long term with their capital investment back into the city. Mountain Lake City Administrator Michael Mueller says they’re looking at the city’s infrastructure… 

Mueller says they also have other improvements on their list… 

Mueller said to finance these projects, the city is looking for some state aid to help… 

Mueller said once the financial situation of these projects is figured out, it would take at least a year after that for them to start work on these projects so the city can send a notice to homeowners affected by those projects and to hold public hearings on the proposed projects.
