Mountain Lake Police Department reported 13Rtha calls in the week of May 8th to May 14th. Officers cited two separate drivers for no MN Drivers Licenses, sent out two ordinance violation letters, called a tow for an unoccupied Vehicle off Road and assisted other agency with a DANCO Violation. An officer tried to locate a person that was reported to be walking on Railroad Tracks which they were unable to locate, they assisted a party stranded at Casey’s and checked on a party knocking on doors, they were instructed to not bother residence asking for money. Officers also checked on a suspicious vehicle with a male sleeping in it, removed debris from a roadway, handled a noise complaint and took care of a situation of a dog locked inside of a vehicle.

May is Arthritis Awareness Month and Windom Area Health is putting out a challenge to everyone to get some great walks in. According to Windom Area Health Wellness Center Supervisor, Lindsey Englar exercising has been shown to improve arthritis-related pain, and the Wellness Center has a variety of options to help get you moving! Englar explained SAIL which stands for Staying Active and Independent for Life is a class that focuses on strength and balance needed for everyday activities and the Walk with Ease Class is a great way for those who manage chronic pain to begin an exercise program. Englar also stated that if someone is interested in one-on-one help, personal training is a great way to get help with becoming more active.

Walking has lots of positive benefits:

  • Reduces pain and discomfort.
  • Improves mood. You feel better.
  • Increases balance, strength and walking pace.
  • Builds confidence in your ability to be physically active.
  • Improves overall health. Whether you are walking by yourself or with a buddy, it’s important to keep yourself moving.

Englar encourages everyone to take that first step to becoming a healthier version of themselves. She stated you don’t have to be a member take part in these classes and encourages everyone needing more information, wanting to get started or to register for the free upcoming Walk with Ease Group that starts on June 7th to call the Wellness Center at 831-0672.

City of Mountain Lake met on Monday. The City Administrator read the second reading on the proposed ordinance change regarding city park hours, parks would be open from 5:00am to 11:00pm, and shall be considered closed after 11:00pm. No person should be in any park between the hours of 11:00pm and 5:00am unless they have written permission from the City Administrator. The LELS Union accepted the updated pay scales for the police officers. The Council was notified that Dawn Fast, Deputy Clerk notified the City Administrator that she will no longer be retiring in July 2023, and will retire in 2024, date unknown. The Council was then informed that the new state holiday Juneteenth which is on June 19th will go into effect for City Offices in 2024 unless two of the omnibus bills in legislature at this time pass then it would be in effect this June. The Council approved updating the personnel policy and union contracts by adding Juneteenth as a holiday effective as of 2024 unless MN recognizes it as a state holiday in 2023. There was a second reading for parking regulation amendment and Maryellen Suhrhoff City Attorney updated the City Council on the greenhouse, and recommended approving Resolution #13-2023, Ordering The Repair Or Removal of Hazardous Buildings Under The MN Statute 463.15 to 463.61. The Council Approved the recommendation.
