Today’s soil temperatures at the 4 inch depth are:  64.2 degrees maximum and 53.8 degrees minimum temperature.

Windom Middle and High Schools were placed in Lockdown yesterday morning. According to the Windom Police Department, they were notified at 11:17am that a student had reported finding .22 Caliber shells in the bathroom at school. The School went into a lockdown, with students and teachers staying in their classrooms, while the administration and the Windom Police Department investigated the situation. During the search, weapons were found in a vehicle outside of the school that were unloaded and a juvenile was taken into custody. It was determined that the building was safe, the lockdown was lifted at approximately 12:39pm and students returned to class. The Windom Police Department was assisted by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office.  Superintendent of Windom Area Schools, Jamie Frank stated We take all reports seriously to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. I’m proud of our students for speaking up and immediately reporting the findings to the office. Frank went on to say, we will continue to follow our protocols to ensure a safe learning environment

Mountain Lake Police Department reported 14 calls from May 1st to the 7th. Officers two separate suspicious person calls, assisted a party with transportation, conducted a welfare check, cited a driver for driving after revocation, handled a reported sucicidal person, checked in on a party happening on private property, assisted another agency with a semi-trailer coming unhitched on the roadway, checked a suspicious vehicle parked at the golf course, handled an ordinance violation, returned a found billfold, assisted the Department of Corrections with a probation check and handled a hit and run to an unoccupied vehicle.

Teens ages 13 and Up will have a fun opportunity at the Cottonwood Historical Society with Lisa Peterson to learn the history of graffiti and then create their own graffiti on Canvas. Each class is limited to 10 teens so you may want to get registered quickly. The program will be held on Tuesday July 18th with two sessions, one at 3pm and the other at 6pm. To register stop down at the Windom Public Library or give them a call at 831-6131. This program is made possible through the state’s Art’s and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Windom’s Citywide Clean-up Day is May 20th. It is going to look a lot different than in past years. One of the biggest changes will be a limit of 10 large household items eligible to be placed on the curb. ONLY 10 large items or less will be picked up. There will be two drop-off sites one at Cottonwood Lake and one at the Windom City Arena between 7am and 1pm on the 20th for all other small-accepted items. NO building materials, electronics or appliances will be picked up or allowed for this Spring Clean-up. According to Assistant Solid Waste Administrator,  Donna Stresemann there will be another Special Pricing at the County Landfill in the Fall for Appliances, Electronics and Building Materials.

There will be an Immigration Resource Meeting for HyLife employees with temporary work Visas on Saturday May 13th from 1-4pm at the American Lutheran Church located at 906 Prospect Ave in Windom.
