Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported they had 21 calls from April 6th to the 8th. Deputies dealt with two reported scams, two assists with the Jackson Ambulance for medical calls, a damage to property call at the EconoLodge, issued four No Parking Violations, responded to a bicycle being stolen from an apartment complex, dealt with a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in Jackson and had three traffic stops that warranted citations. On the 6th at approximately 8:30pm Deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a passing vehicle on N. Hwy at the intersection with Logan Ave. in Jackson.  An 81-year-old female received injuries to her foot while crossing the street.  The Jackson Ambulance assisted at the scene. At 10:32pm A deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop after a vehicle was clocked at 111 mph on I-90 near the Alpha exit.  The vehicle exited I-90 and travelled northbound on CR 29 failing to stop for the deputy.  A pursuit ensued with the vehicle continuing north on CR 29 and then west of CR 30 at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The vehicle ran the stop sign in Bergen and turned north but came to a stop shortly thereafter.  The driver, a 26-year-old male from Sioux Falls, was arrested for Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle. On the 7th at approximately 10:15am the Jackson Fire Dept. responded to a report of a small grass fire near the US 71/I-90 intersection in Jackson.  A semi lost two tires while exiting off I-90 onto US 71.  Sparks flow off the trailer tire rims causing a small fire in the ditch.  The Fire Department was on scene for about 15 minutes. At about 2:35pm A deputy responded to a report of three individuals from Iowa and the Twin Cities who were going door to door selling carpet cleaning products in Jackson.  They did not have a Peddler’s License from City Hall and were instructed to cease until obtaining the license. Then at 5:47pm a deputy responded to a commercial fire alarm in Jackson.  It was determined to be a false alarm. A deputy assisted the Sioux Falls PD with their investigation into a Hit & Run.  A vehicle fled the scene of an accident in Sioux Falls and was found a short distance away.  The vehicle was unoccupied but still running with the doors unlocked.  It appeared the driver fled on foot.  The vehicle was owned by a Jackson County resident which is why they requested our assistance.  The matter remains under investigation. On the 8th at a quarter till Noon The Lake Park Fire Dept. was dispatched to a small grove fire in Sioux Valley Township.

When you see something that needs to be done it is best to jump in and do it! Two seniors from Windom Area High School, Allison Negen and Bekah Johnson decided to partner up for their Eagle Achievement Project and try to raise money to get some new playground equipment for the Windom Dog Park at Island Park. Allison stated that the idea came to them because they take their dogs together for play time and they feel it would be more interactional if there was some equipment for the dogs to climb, jump over and run under instead of just running around. According to Allison, through research on boredom with dogs and exercise, they have learned that getting some equipment at the dog park is a great way for them to release energy and have fun while getting out that pent up energy of being in the house and bored. Studies show that if you exercise your animal, behavioral problems can be less. Allison and Bekah have met with the Parks and Rec Board and received overwhelming approval with the Windom City Council for this project. Allison stated that each piece of equipment is expensive, and they have been looking for grants to apply for but haven’t had much luck finding any. The girls have set up a Go Fund Me page and have set a goal of $2,500. If they supersede this goal, all extra funding will go to Cottonwood County Animal Rescue who have been an excellent resource in their quest so far. If you would like to help, bring this vision of more playground equipment to the Windom Dog Park you can donate by going to the Go Fund Me page or they are accepting donations through Venmo. Both links are on the KDOM Webpage under Local Headline News. If you AREN’T Computer savvy and don’t do Venmo or know what that is… You can still donate by sending your checks to Allison Negen at 45908 395th St Windom or Bekah Johnson at 375 River Bluff Drive Windom please specify Dog Park Equipment on the check.

If you would like to learn more about this project Allison and Bekah gave an in-depth interview on Kaleidoscope back in February of this year and it is available on this website under our Podcast section.
