Mountain Lake Police Department reported  10 calls from 3/14 to 3/19. Officers had two separate suspicious person and vehicle calls, assisted another agency with a driving complaint and handled a verbal domestic. Officers also handled a minor two vehicle accident and assisted another agency transporting a person that was stuck in the bad weather storm. Officers also assisted other agencies with two separate vehicles off the road and another accident on Hwy 60 and Mt Lake Police Officers handled a disturbance call at Dollar General.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 21st a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson and as a result, the driver was issued a citation for Driving After Suspension. Deputies assisted the Jackson Ambulance with a medical at the Clear Lake Rest Area. In the evening, a deputy transported an inmate from Nobles County Jail to Jackson County Jail. The 47-year-old male inmate from Worthington had an active Jackson County warrant for 5th Degree Controlled Substance: Pre-Trial Release Conditions Violations.

The Windom Area Schools Strategic Planning Committee will hold a meeting Tonight at 5:30pm in the Elementary Commons. The Agenda will review, align and wrap-up Goals and have an in-service with the Board-Superintendent Team.

The Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for their annual Easter Egg Extravaganza. Saturday April 8th Kids up to the age of 10 are invited to come scramble up some treats and get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny. The Easter Egg  Scramble starts promptly at 10 am and you won’t want to be late. Mountain Lake Chamber and their supporting businesses are getting eggcited to offer this memorable event again this year. More details will be shared within the next couple of weeks.

The Cottonwood County Historical Society will be hosting a showing and reception of the Cottonwood County Student Art Show on Sunday April 2nd from 2-4pm. The exhibit features artwork by Senior High Students from Mt Lake Public and Christian Schools, Red Rock Central Public School, Westbrook/Walnut Grove Public School, and Windom Area Public School. There will be over 40 works of art on display with a variety of mediums. The exhibit will be on display from April 2nd to April 29th  during regular business hours. The Opening Day reception is free to the public and will have light refreshments.

Federated Rural Electric, Jackson, announced the winners in its 2023 Youth Tour Contest.

Winning the grand prize was Katie Hartke from Sherburn; she won Federated’s free trip to Washington, D.C. June 13-18. Hartke is the daughter of Doug and Lisa. She is a junior at Martin County West High School. She will be among 1,500 teenagers from across the country participating in Youth Tour, which is sponsored by electric cooperatives. She will tour the D.C. memorials and sites, witness Congress in session, visit with legislators and enjoy a theater performance, while learning about cooperatives.

Second and third place awards of $150 and $100 were awarded to Gabriel Wolff and Joseph Mohr; both are seniors at Jackson County Central High School. Wolff received second place and is the son of Adam and Angela from Jackson. Mohr earned third place and is the son of Mark and Carrie, Jackson.

Each applicant completed an application and an essay on an energy-related topic. Each applicant also received a $20 gift certificate to Amazon.com. The five finalists were called back for personal interviews March 20.
