The Special Joint Meeting with the Windom City Council and The Windom Park and Recreation Commission is happening TONIGHT at 5:30pm at City Hall in the City Council Chambers. This is an open meeting to the public. The topic of discussion is the Windom Arena the affordability and feasibility of not having the dirt base available. There is talk of fixing up and expanding an outdoor arena instead. If you want to be apart of the discussion come to the meeting or contact your City Council Member or Mayor Jones and voice your opinions.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 37 calls from January 1st to the 7th. Deputies tended to eight vehicles off the road, assisted with four medical ambulance calls, had 5 Civil Processes and two public assists. Superintendent of Windom Area Schools, Jamie Frank sent out an informational letter to parents and the Windom School Community in regards to the Alleged Threat Investigation that the Windom Police Department released a Press Release yesterday. Frank stated that on January 9th Windom Schools administration was made aware of an alleged threat of violence. The alleged threat did not place any student or staff member in immediate danger. Frank went onto say that Administration conducted interviews of students reporting the alleged threat and determined the need to contact law enforcement. Law enforcement took the appropriate steps successfully conducted an investigation.

Frank wanted to make it clear, they take any reported threat seriously and are working with law enforcement to continue to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. Frank expressed that she is proud of the students for speaking up and reporting this threat to a trusted adult. She went on to say “we take steps daily to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff”. Frank concluded that Windom Area Schools will continue to follow protocols to ensure a safe learning environment for all.

She is HERE!!! The first Baby Born at Windom Area Health presented herself on Monday January 9th. Brinlee Darlene Rettke was born at 7:38am weighing 7lbs 6oz and was 21 inches long. Parents, Sam and Mitchell Rettke were surprised that Brinlee was the first baby born for the New Year but were super excited. They were so not expecting it and didn’t even know it was a “thing” but are truly grateful to all the businesses that participated and can’t believe all the wonderful gifts and certificates that were presented! The Rettke’s are from the Odin Township Butterfield. Mitchell is a farmer and works for CFS Coop in Truman and Sam teaches 2nd grade in Butterfield. Brinlee Darlene (whose middle name is her Great Grandma’s Namesake) will be joining forces with her big sister Briella who is 4 years old and big brother Brogan who is 2 years old.

According to Katie Greener, Marketing Coordinator from Windom Area Health, the Rettke family was showered with gifts from the following local businesses A&W in Mountain Lake, Cottonwood County Dairy Association, Culligan Water, Decades Boutique, First Floral Hallmark,  Five Star Realty, KDOM Radio, LaCanne Family Funeral Home, Racheal Marie Designs, Revitalize Massage Therapy, River’s Edge Realty, Salon Oasis, Wellness & Vitality Chiropractic, and Windom Area Health.
