The Executive Board for the Windom Area Chamber of Commerce announced that they have hired Emily Cenzano as the new Windom Chamber Executive Director. Cenzano’s first day as Executive Director was on Tuesday, January 3rd. The executive board in their press release stated Cenzano is a Windom Native and considers herself a champion for her hometown. Cenzano moved back to Windom in 2011 after being away for college and the early start to her career, she received her Bachelors degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo with an emphasis in Emergency Management, Sociology and Community Development. She went on to earn her Masters in Public and Non-Profit Administration at Metropolitan State University. Emily has volunteered on the Windom Chamber and Convention and Visitors Bureau boards from 2018 to 2022 sharing her experience and knowledge in real estate and housing. Emily’s husband, Philip has been employed with TORO for 8 ½ years. Her family stays busy with their three children through football, hockey, figure skating, taekwondo, and all things school related. If you see Emily out and about in the community, she usually has a camera with her to capture all the wonderful events and activities our great town has to offer.

Mountain Lake Police Department had 10 calls from December 25th to January 1st. Officers assisted 4 motorists with vehicle problems, a dog bite call, cited a driver for Ted Voss Violation and handled a damage to property call where a fence was damaged due to an unknown vehicle striking a fence and dealt with a verbal domestic. On the 27th a Mt Lake Officer started an investigation into a report of criminal sexual misconduct and on the 1st at approximately 8:30pm an Officer responded to a report of someone breaking and entering a house. A 34-year-old male from Brooklyn Park was arrested For criminal damage to property, Terroristic Threats, DWI and Other Pending charges.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 2nd a deputy assisted the Jackson Ambulance with a medical call and on the 3rd around 1pm a deputy arrested a 38-year-old male from Emmetsburg for a felony warrant from Emmet County, Iowa for Stalking.  He was transported to the Jail and will be extradited to Iowa at a later date and at approximately 6pm deputies responded to a disturbance in Jackson.

December Weather Stats 1/3/23

The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in November.  The information is compiled by Dave Fjeld, the local weather observer and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls.  December rainfall was one point nine inches compared to one and 81 hundredths in 2021.  Total rainfall for the year was 22 and 19 hundredths of an inch. We received 14.8 inches of snowfall giving us a total for the year of 41.6 inches.  22 inches of that total has come in November and December.  Our high temperature or the month was 42 degrees on December 3rd and the low of -15 occurred on both December 22nd and 23rd.

Springfield Chamber of Commerce will be holding their 2023 Annual Meeting Wednesday January 18th at the Springfield Golf Club at 12:10pm. The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners meeting will be held on Friday, January 6th. The regular board meeting was scheduled for the 2nd but was postponed due to the winter storm. The meeting will begin with the swearing in of newly-elected officials at 8:30am with the organizational meeting and the regular meeting starting at 9am.
