Eagles Split home opener Victories at the blue gym
The Windom Eagles Boys and Girls opened their home openers Last week against tough opponents apiece. First on the schedule was the Windom boys as they faced off against the Jackson county Central Huskies just 48 hours after the Girls faced the Huskies on the road. The Eagles started out strong but the Huskies had a more steam as the huskies jumped out to an early lead. The Eagles got the momentum swung back in their favor one time in the first half at 4:31 left on the clock and went ahead by one point to take a 39-38 lead but as time wore on the huskies attacked the basket and took 3-point shots left and right and as half time approached the eagles went to the dressing rooms trailing 51-46.The second half wasn’t much better for the Eagles as they were unable to get much else going. Fouls and missed opportunities plagued Windom as they tried to take the lead back. They were able to close the gap a bit but the Huskies were just too much and the Eagles fell to JCC by a score of 99-91.

The next game to be played at the blue gym on the Basketball schedule was a contest between the visiting Redwood Valley Cardinals and the Windom Eagles Girls teams. The Girls were looking to make up some ground after a tough loss on the road in Jackson just 72 hours prior. The Eagles had some personnel changes in the starting 5 as well as they had learned Tuesday that a top rebounder and one of their seniors Kameron Rupp will be out the rest of the season due to a leg injury sustained in Jackson. The Eagles didn’t seem to let that slow them down however as they announced their presence with authority in the first half but Redwood kept the game close and as the horn sounded for halftime Windom had taken an 8-point 29-21 lead. The Second half saw a lot of trips to the foul line and a time of almost 3 minutes early where no scoring happened. The Cardinals didn’t let that slow them down as they kicked the ball to outside the 3-point line often and they were able to keep the game close yet again. Costly fouls and turnovers in Windom’s favor allowed the Eagles to march away with a 60-49 victory.
