Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 19th at approximately 7:36pm, deputies responded to a structure fire on 360th Street, Westbrook. No one was injured and a shed was lost in the fire. Then at approximately 8:34pm, a Deputy responded to a one vehicle rollover by Summit Lake. A 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup, driven by a female from Mound, MN, was traveling north on 507th Ave when she entered the curves and lost control. The vehicle entered the west ditch and rolled onto its roof. The driver was uninjured and was able to get out of the vehicle. On the 21st at approximately 12:50pm, a female party called to report that her 19yr old Bipolar daughter was missing. She was last seen the night before in the garage with her brother. The missing 19 year old was wearing Black leggings, a black sweatshirt with a camo vest, greyish “Hey-Dude” shoes, and a black baseball cap. She is considered a vulnerable adult. A note was left. At approximately 4:05pm, Deputies responded to a report of a semi- turned over hauling fertilizer on Co Rd. 7. No injuries reported. A 1999 International Trailer was traveling South on Duncan Street, attempted to make a right hand turn on Co Rd 7 when it overturned.

The Jeffers City Council met in regular session on the 24th. The Council heard from Jeffers Fire Chief Rhubee. Rhubee was present to receive approval for the purchase of a Jaws of Life package from the Hanley Falls Fire Department at the cost of $15,000 which the Council unanimously approved by purchasing with General Funds. The Council agreed to purchase a new metal detector at the estimated cost of $800 and Ron’s Electric will be wiring the City Sign soon. Bargen was hired to sweep the streets this fall.

Also remember no company is going to require you to go purchase gift cards to make payments. BEFORE giving out any personal information be INFORMED. Call the business or your loved ones. You just may save yourself a lot of hassle and money.

USDA Rural Development has funding available for individuals and families seeking to purchase or repair a home in a rural area. The Direct Home Loan program offers financing to qualified low-income applicants that are unable to qualify for traditional financing. No down payment is required, and the interest rate could be as low as one percent with a subsidy. Applicants must meet income and credit guidelines and demonstrate repayment ability.

The maximum loan amount is $40,000 at a one percent interest rate, repayable for a 20-year term and can be used to improve or modernize homes and do essential repairs. Grants of up to $10,000 are available to homeowners 62 and older and must be used to remove health or safety hazards, such as fixing a leaking roof, installing indoor plumbing, or replacing a furnace. The program is available in rural communities of generally 35,000 people or less.
