Jackson County Sheriff’s Office had a busy day on Friday the 21st. Deputies responded to two separate vehicle tampering calls in Jackson plus responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.  A 2004 black Chevy Trailblazer was stolen sometime overnight in the 800 block of 4th St. in Jackson.  The matter remains under investigation. At approximately 1 pm A deputy responded to a report of a Stoeger pistol that was found in the Des Moines River.  The pistol was found sticking out of the mud and was exposed due to the low water levels.  Deputies are trying to determine who the owner is. At 2:17pm The Heron Lake Fire Dept. responded to a grass fire on MN 60 west of Heron Lake.  Crews were on scene for about 10 minutes. Then at 3:01pm The Lakefield Fire Dept. responded to a grass fire NW of Lakefield in West Heron Lake Township.  Heron Lake FD was paged for mutual aid.  Crews were on scene for about 2 hours and then at 3:45pm The Jackson Fire Department responded to a cornfield fire southwest of Jackson in Petersburg Township.  The Alpha Fire Department was paged for mutual aid.  Crews were on scene for about 1 hour. At 4:32 PM A deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 400 block of 6th St. in Jackson.  The vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Sequoia, was unoccupied and was found to have been reported stolen in Fairmont.  The matter remains under investigation. To end the evening at 9:24pm Jackson County Deputies responded to a driving complaint in Okabena involving two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed.  The deputy located both vehicles later in Heron Lake and conducted a traffic stop.  As a result, the driver of one of the vehicles was issued a citation for Driving After Revocation.

Medicare is confusing. There is no other way to put it. Tuesday Oct 25th there will be a free Medicare Informational Session at the Windom Community Center located at 1750 Cottonwood Lake Drive. Jessica Krick, from Krick Insurance Agency and Todd Ostrow, a Farmers Union Agency Health and Life Specialist are ready to help you understand the ABC’s and D’s of Medicare. Todd has over 15 years in helping people optimize their individual and family health and life solutions. This is a FREE in person educational session regarding the 2023 Medicare information. This session will give you the tools you need to make informed decisions about your health care during this Falls Annual Open Enrollment period.

This educational session is in conjunction with the Sr Meals Program. Lunch will be served at 11:30am and Jessica is picking up half your cost for lunch! Everyone is welcome and there will be time for question and answers and one-on-ones. If you want lunch, please call the meal site to reserve your lunch at 507-831-6161. If you don’t want lunch, just come on over to the Community Center at 11am for a great program.

McTeacher Night in Windom is October 26th and Windom Area Elementary staff will be participating this year. Funds raised at McTeacher night, will help to purchase recess equipment which includes but not limited to jump ropes, footballs, basketball nets, soccer balls, bases, cones, potato sacks, and indoor recess games.
