Windom Police Department were dispatched to the 600 block of 16th Street for a vehicle that had been found to have some damage done to it. The owner of the 2018 Ford Edge believed the damage happened while at either Windom Area Health or HyVee Parking Lot. The Officer will follow-up to check video systems at both businesses. Light damage was done to the front passenger door.

Mountain Lake Police Department reported on April 10th a driver was cited for D.A.R. also an officer took a report/complaint regarding possible ordinance violation of burning and blowing garbage and also on the 110th officers took a report of possible child abuse. This is under investigation and it involves other jurisdictions which it was also referred.

On the 9th of April Mt Lake Police Officer assisted other agency with driving complaint on Highway 60. Officers also took another child abuse report from another agency this is a duel investigation. Parties involved have moved and matter is being referred to new jurisdictions.

On the 6th Mt Lake Police Officers checked on a suspicious vehicles everything turned out ok. Also two juveniles were charged with misdemeanor drug possession. One of the juveniles was also charged with tobacco possession. And officers assisted other agency with a wrong way driver on Highway 60. The driver self corrected.

On April 4th Mt Lake officer received a report of two women walking around yards. Upon investigation, women were out searching for a lost cat.

Motorists traveling on Hwy 86 through Lakefield can expect a detour beginning Monday, April 18, weather permitting, as crews begin reconstruction on 1.3 miles of Hwy 86, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The project will include grading, pavement, utility replacement, lighting, drainage, and sidewalk reconstruction.

Hwy 86 through Lakefield will be closed during construction and traffic detoured. Local access will be maintained for local residents and businesses. Visit the project website for detour information. Construction is expected to be complete by mid-November.

Benefits of the project includes improved pedestrian accommodations, updated utilities, smoother road surfaces and increased safety along the corridor.

R & R Excavating, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $8,295,538.92.

Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

  • Slow down when approaching every work zone
  • Never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones
  • Stay alert; watch for workers and slow-moving equipment
  • Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel
  • Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times

The Windom Area Foundation continues to focus on the Veterans Memorial that will be located along Highway 60/71 in Lohmann Park.  The Foundation has raised over $63,000 to date but are about $15,000 short of their goal.  The plan to is start construction this spring and according to Board member Justin Schmidt, they believe the goal will be met. Schmidt went onto say that local families and businesses have shown large support for this project.

There is a constant effort to continue to raise funds for the Endowment Fund.   Windom Area Foundation continues to see donation come in for the endowment fund, which has raised roughly $300,000 over the past year.  Growth in the endowment will give the Windom Area Foundation the ability to give back to the community and help others move projects forward.

There are many fun and exciting events coming with this years Riverfest in Windom. Riverfest 2022 will hold the theme “Back to the River” with a kickoff to the festivities on Monday June 6th.  One major change that the community will be seeing is the annual Riverfest Fireworks will be held on THURSDAY night at 10pm. The fireworks will be going back to the Windom Area High School. The Chamber is excited to announce that Fortune Transportation and Perry Olson will be key sponsor to help keep this long traditional favorite event going. According to Windom Chamber Director Tyann Hall-Marcy Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt, Windom Area High School along with the School Board have been great to work with and are appreciated for allowing the fireworks to come back to this location. The Parade, Concerts, Car Show and many more fun activities are being planned to make this a fabulous celebration.
