Two Windom residents were hurt in a single vehicle crash last week in northern Jackson County. The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened just after 4:30 Monday afternoon, July 14, on Highway 86 near mile marker 22 in Delafield Township. A 15-year-old juvenile female was behind the wheel of a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica, heading northbound, when the vehicle crashed, reportedly a rollover. Both the driver and her passenger, 50-year-old Shawna Mae Vancura of Windom, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The two were taken to Windom Area Hospital for treatment. Troopers say both occupants were wearing seat belts, no alcohol was involved, and the road was dry at the time of the crash. Assisting at the scene was the Windom Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Fire Department, and Windom EMS.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting Tuesday morning at the courthouse in Windom, addressing several key items focused on economic development, infrastructure, and county operations. Following a public hearing, commissioners unanimously adopted the Cottonwood County Business Subsidy Policy, setting a framework for future economic support initiatives within the county. The board also approved granting a business subsidy to Midway Village Inns, LLC for the development of a 42-unit hotel facility in the City of Mountain Lake. The hotel project is expected to boost local lodging capacity and support tourism and business travel in the area. In infrastructure action, the board accepted the low bid of $583,338.50 from Towne & Country Excavating, LLC for Project 0174-615-032, a transportation improvement initiative. The specifics of the project were not detailed during the meeting summary, but the approval marks a step forward in county road and infrastructure upgrades. Looking ahead, the board reached a consensus to tentatively schedule an open house for the new Public Works Building on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event will give residents an opportunity to tour the facility and learn more about the county’s public works operations. Additional agenda items, including an update on the interim county engineer position and county department budgets, were also discussed, though no formal action was recorded on those items.
