The Windom City Council met on the 17th. The Council was informed that the Windom Police Department set Halloween Trick or Treat Hours on October 31st from 4-7pm. Two public hearings were held both were approved they were- The Proposed Property Tax Abatements for Electric Generation Building and Municipal Liquor Store there with no public comments and the 2018-2022 Small Cities Development Program Grant Closeout Public Hearing with no public comments. This grant assisted with funding for 11 projects in Windom. The Fire Department reported they received a 50/50 grant from MN DNR for the purchase of a new hose Cost is $5,200 with the other half being paid by the Windom Fire Relief Association. The Council was informed and discussed that the SW/WC Coop Community Policing Agreement was terminated.  According to Councilman Jenny Quade, this was NOT something the City Council or Windom Poice Department wanted, but the termination request came from the SW/WC Coop management office in Marshall.  Quade explained, It appears they are indicating with changes in the School Resource Officer (SRO) laws they want to discontinue the agreement and not have the police walking through their building in Windom each day. Quade stated, the Windom Police Department has been spending about 30 minutes a weekday making connections at the school for the past 6 years.  Quade went onto say that everyone at the meeting made comments of how great this program has been working and how the number of calls to the school and the level of violence had decreased significantly over the years.    The Council feels this is very unfortunate that the contract was terminated by the School. The City Council voted to write a letter to the school expressing their feelings on this matter. The Council discussed the updates to the Liquor store and also had an extensive discussion on THC edibles and if they should be sold at the liquor store.  The Council approved that the liquor store will be able to sell everything that is spelled out in State Statute which now does include THC beverages and THC infused edibles.

I wonder if there is anyone else out there that is feeling as if nothing in this life right now is real? I don’t mean to get political but both sides of our government seem to be speaking in alien terms. To me it just doesn’t seem as if they have the American People’s best interest at heart. Add in All the bombings across the world and the cries coming from civilians and children it just is almost too much to bear and believe. There is just so much unrest in our world right now. Even our State is dealing out new laws and rules that make no sense and taking away safety measures and giving more power to people that aren’t always honest or have good intentions. I laughed when I saw that today is National Information Overload Day. My head is reeling. It is trying to comprehend and explain things that make no sense. I think today is a great day to just unplug, unload, and walk away… Maybe a day of stillness and prayer will create a buffer to help move forward and not be so overloaded with all the nonsense that is being slung in so many different directions…
