Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 48 calls in the week of August 13th to the 19th. Deputies served 12 Civil Processes, worked 2 Suspicious Activities, had 3 prisoner transports, served 3 warrants, and worked 2 Hit and Run Accidents. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 20th at approximately 2:43pm the Round Lake Fire Department and Lake Park Fire Department were paged to a grass fire Northeast of Round Lake. Crews were on scene for about an hour. At 6:43pm the Jackson Fire Department was paged to the Jackson Hi-Rise for a report of smoke inside of an apartment. Crews were on scene for about 20 minutes, but no fire was located. On the 21st at 2:43am   Deputies responded to a report of a male walking down a street screaming at the top of his lungs.  Deputies located the male in the area, and he explained he was arguing on the cell phone with someone and was then intentionally yelling because he is scared to death of deer. At 6:58pm Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on CR 34 near CR 9 in Rost Township.  The vehicle entered the ditch and nearly struck a utility pole before coming to a stop.  As deputies were responding, the caller stated the female driver was now switching seats with a female passenger.  After investigating, it was learned the vehicle entered the ditch due to distracted driving.  The driver was issued a citation for No MN Driver’s License.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners had a Special Meeting on Tuesday the Commissioners were led in a discussion by Chairman Anderson regarding Commercial Tax Abatements, what the current policy is and the Mountain Lake Hotel tax abatement request. The Board approved to allow the Board Chair, County Auditor/Treasurer and the County Coordinator to sign the representation letter regarding the December 31, 2022 year-end audit of financial statements. The Commissioner adopted “For Agreement to State Transportation Fund Local Bridge Replacement Program Grant Terms and Conditions SAP 017-603-019 and accepted the low bid from John Riley Construction Inc. in the amount of $798,503.80. The 2024 proposed budgets were reviewed for Parks, Landfill, Highway, Commissioners, Courthouse, N71 Office building, 10th Street Office Building, N71 Church building, Family Services building, Public Health building, County Building fund, Auditor/Treasurer, and Elections
