Windom Police Department reported on the 11th at approximately 11:30am an officer assisted Des Moines Valley Health & Human Services to a residence on 10th Street. After investigation, a 38-year-old Windom Male was arrested for violating an active Order of Protection, while knowing of its existence, within 10 years of 2 or more previous domestic violence related convictions, which is a Felony violation. The case was reviewed by the County Attorney Office and charges were brought. On the 12th at 8:30pm an officer was driving westbound on 13th St and observed a Mt. Lake male that Officer knew to have an active Warrant for Failure to pay child support. The male was riding his bike eastbound on 13th St. Officer turned around to stop the male. The male quickly took off on his bike on 4th Ave heading south. Officer continued to follow the suspect when he turned on 12th St and fell off his bike. The suspect immediately got up to run but was apprehended with assistance from another male in the area. The 32-year-old Mt. Lake male was placed under arrest for his warrant and brought to the Cottonwood County Jail without incident. The case is being reviewed for possible charges of Fleeing a Peace Officer by Means other than a Motor Vehicle.

Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department reported on the 9th at approximately 6:20pm a Deputy went to complete a civil process on Hwy 30 in Storden. When the Deputy knocked on the door, a male answered the door who the Deputy recognized from past contacts and knew the individual had a warrant out of Cottonwood County. Warrant was confirmed and the male was placed under arrest and brought to the Cottonwood County Jail without incident and booked in on his warrant. On the 12th at approximately 4:30pm a Deputy was conducting random patrol traveling eastbound on Hwy 30. Deputy observed a tan Nissan Murano traveling westbound towards him. Deputy recognized this vehicle from a warrant check the previous day. Deputy knew the vehicle owner to have an active warrant out of Wright County as well as a driving status of Canceled IPS. Upon further observation, the Deputy confirmed the vehicle owner was the driver and initiated a traffic stop on Hwy 30 east of the 470th Ave intersection. The female driver was placed under arrest both for the warrant and driving after cancellation IPS. The female driver transported to the jail in Windom without incident.

The City of St James will begin sealcoating TODAY in the Southwest corner of St. James. NO PARKING signs are being placed in affected areas one day prior to the sealcoating. The Jeffers City Council met on the 14th. The Council heard from Kathleen Smith regarding the garage on her property, after discussion Smith will check into options and report back to the clerk. The Council discussed Jeffers tax forfeited properties. Lance Holmen, Director of Maintenance presented estimates for options for the pickleball court in the City Park. Building permits for Ivan Carter and Karla Shepard were reviewed and approved. The Council agreed that letters will be sent to property owners regarding unlicensed vehicles and overgrown grass. The Council discussed the land for the future Fire Hall and the Clerk reported on information for Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting. The Clerk also informed the Council on an upcoming hearing regarding a Cannabis Ordinance for Cottonwood County.

The 56th Annual Butterfield Threshermen’s Steam & Gas Engine Show is this weekend at Voss Park on the west edge of Butterfield. Admission is $10 for adults which is good for both days and children under 13 are Free. Admission starts on Friday the 18th at 4:30pm. Parking is free, and there is camping available in the shaded Voss Park campground near Butterfield Lake. This two-day event features antique tractors, engines, cars, and machinery, as well as pioneer town and crafts. There is continuous entertainment on stage starting Friday night through Sunday. There will be a variety of foods available on the grounds. Saturday Canyon Cowboys will take the stage at 7pm. Sunday Morning at 8:30am there will be an open air church service featuring some of the bluegrass groups. There is so much to do this weekend August 19th and 20th in Butterfield at the Steam & Gas Engine Show, go check it out.
