Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 25th deputies assisted Jackson Ambulance with two separate medical calls and a deputy received a report of a Microsoft computer scam.  The reporting party said they received a pop-up message stating there were issues with their computer and were asked for permission to log into their computer remotely to repair the issues.  The Reporting party did allow the scammer to remote in.  Once that occurred, the scammer immediately demanded $8,000 in gift cards or they would lock up their bank account.  The reporting party stated that they would not send the gift cards.  So the scammer then demanded that they hide the $8,000 in cash in magazines and send it in the mail.  At this point, the reporting party realized it was a scam.  The deputy assisted the person in contacting their local bank to notify them of the scam.  They found out no money had been stolen from their account.  The deputy also assisted them in contacting a local computer repair company to examine it for malware. At approximately 4pm A deputy received a fraud report from a local trucking company.  Someone had fraudulently gained access to their company gas card account and removed $6,000 from the account.  The gas card company is working on cancelling those transactions.  The matter remains under investigation.
