Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 52 calls in the week of March 5th pto March 11th. Deputies helped with 2 prisoner transports, conducted 15 Civil Processes, 2 Accidents with no injuries, assisted 5 vehicles off road and had 5 traffic stops. The MN State Patrol with the assistance of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and the Jackson County Ambulance were on scene on the 11th at approximately 6:14am of a one vehicle rollover on US 71 near Bergen.

A 19-year-old Windom Woman was driving her 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser traveling southbound on Highway 71 in Jackson County when it lost control, entered the ditch and rolled. The driver of the Cruiser sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Windom Area Hospital.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 12th at approximately 10:20am, a deputy responded to  a civil dispute over property at the Earth Inn in Jackson. At 10:50am a deputy responded to a minor tw0-vehicle accident on County Road 51 near the Sale Barn in Jackson. There was a call for the MN State Patrol of a vehicle in the ditch on I-90 near Alpha and at 5:07pm Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Pearl Lake and County Road 4.  The driver was reported to possibly be intoxicated.  Deputies were unable to locate the vehicle in that area. Later in the evening at 7:37pm Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had driven into a field and was now stuck near the intersection of CR 4 and US 71.  The vehicle description was identical to that from the 5:07 PM incident.  After investigating, a 53-year-old male from Jackson was arrested for DUI. A Deputy assisted the MN State Patrol with a jackknifed semi that was blocking the driving lanes on MN 60 near Wilder.  The deputy was on scene for about 45 minutes.

The week of March 20 through the 24 will be a busy one for Windom Area Elementary. The week will feature the “The Great Kindness Challenge.” It will feature different dress up days and fun challenges. On Monday, March 20 recognition will be given to the 1st and 2nd grade Terrific Kids at 2 PM. On Tuesday, March 21 Kindergarten and 1st grade will perform their Spring Concert at 6 PM. 2nd and 3rd grade students will follow up with their Spring Concert at 7 PM. These concerts will take place in the Gold gym at the High School. Thursday, March 23 recognition to the Terrific Kids in grades 3 through 5 for the 3rd Quarter at 2 PM in the Elementary Commons. Finally on Friday, March 24 the 3rd quarter ends, ALSO THERE WILL BE NO Kindergarten classes in session. Windom Area Elementary will be hosting Kindergarten Registration for next year’s Kindergarten students.

There are two opportunities for Firearms Safety Training in our area coming up. In Jackson, March 28th through May 2nd will be Firearms Safety Training Classroom Classes and Field Day. Then on March 29th just a Firearms Safety Field Day will be offered. Both are being led by Instructor Michael Haeffiner. Students must be 11 years old before the date of the Field Day. Students must bring Field Day Voucher to the Field Day. A Parent or Guardian must attend first 30 minutes of the Field Day and Students must pre-register.
