History is a fun and interesting way to get connected to your town. Ashley Vock and her family are diving into Windom and coming up with many wonderful treasures. Ashley is a trained historian and when she moved from California to Windom she discovered a whole new world. Ashley said she has been blown away by what has been uncovered and donated and the wonderful outpouring of the community, BUT she wants more! The Vock’s are starting an archive of Windom’s past to share with future generations. Windom has a lot of rich and fun history, and they want to preserve and share it all with the community. The Vock’s are looking for pieces of Windom History to add to their archives. Ashley stated the easiest way is to bring historical items, stories, pictures, videos, newspapers or clippings, old business signs or ads or even business and souvenir cards, to Franks Shoe Repair on the Square. Or you can call Matt at 507-831-5011 and they will contact you, to make arrangements or have an interview. The family wants to bring Windom back to its historical times and connect the community. Ashley also added that if there are any business or store owners that would allow her to come and explore to take pictures of the history of the building she would be elated. At this time, there is a display at Franks Shoe Repair and the family is welcoming anyone to come in to see, touch, feel and ask questions or to just come in to reminisce. History really does connect the past to the now and to the future and the Vock’s hope that this project will show what has changed in Windom and what hasn’t changed and maybe bring back that feeling of a connected community.
