Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 17th at 6:46 AM  Deputies, the Jackson Ambulance, and Jackson Fire Department all responded to a report of a one vehicle rollover with injuries on Petersburg Road near 760th Street  A St. Paul man, was travelling south on Petersburg Road in a 2016 Freightliner owned by Ryder Truck Rental, Inc..  The driver lost control and entered the west ditch causing the truck to roll on its side.  The St Paul man was transported by the Jackson Ambulance to Sanford Jackson with non-life threatening injuries.  The truck, which was transporting Amazon packages, was totaled.  Jackson Federated REA, Borntragers Towing, and the County Public Works also assisted at the scene.  A one-mile stretch of Petersburg Road was closed for several hours to remove the vehicle from the ditch and repair a power line pole that was struck.  Then at 10:48 AM  A deputy responded to a two vehicle accident on CR 14 near the intersection of CR 9.  A rural Heron Lake man, was travelling westbound on CR 14 in a 2003 International semi with a trailer hauling corn.  An Okabena man was traveling eastbound in a Case IH tractor pulling an anhydrous ammonia applicator and two anhydrous tanks.  Several shanks on the applicator caught the rear corner of the trailer causing damage to both.  There were no injuries.

At 4:12 PM  A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Blackbridge Road.  Warmka Towing assisted at the scene. And to end the evening at 6:08 PM  A deputy, the Heron Lake Ambulance, and the Heron Lake Fire Department assisted the MN State Patrol with a report of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of MN 62 and Cottonwood County Road 5.
On the 18th at 11:21am A deputy responded to a combine fire near the Kimball Corner.  The Mt. Lake Fire Department also responded.  Crews were on scene for about 30 minutes. There was a hit and run in Jackson and a minor two vehicle accident on US 71 in Jackson. At 5:31pm A deputy responded to a driving complaint on I-90 near Jackson.  The vehicle, which was said to have been swerving, was located and a traffic stop was conducted.  After investigating, a 33-year-old male from Swiftbird, SD was arrested for 2nd Degree DUI.

And at 8:22 PM  Deputies assisted a DNR Conservation Officer with a trespassing complaint at Boot Lake.

Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on the 18th The Commissioners had listened to an overview of the services provided by the MN Department of Corrections.  The Board approved the submission of the Des Moines River Watershed Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan (2023 – 2032) to the Minnesota Board of Water & Soil Resources (BWSR) and then authorized the appropriate parties to sign the Des Moines River Watershed Partnership Joint Powers Agreement. The Board committed to pledging $15,000 for updating the Lidar system for our area and use buffer monies for the expense and they revised the Ditch Inspector job description to remove “This position is appointed by the Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners” and replaced it with “This individual reports to the Auditor/Treasurer.”

The Mountain Lake City Council met on Monday the 17th, the Council listened to Public comments from Rachel Yoder and Sue Garloff representative from the Chamber of Commerce and Cheryl Hiebert presented a petition to City Council to continue the sunflower, repainting, or any touch ups. No action was taken, instead it was directed to bring this to the County Commissioners, as it is a county street. The City Attorney presented Resolution #20-22 to condemn 605 6th Ave and the Council approved. The Council also approved to rescind their previous motion from the last meeting to have a public hearing to change the EDA Resolution 7-89, removing the authority of hiring and firing of the EDA, and transferring the authority back to City Council. City Administrator Michael  Mueller held a discussion with the Council about liquor licenses inquiries and purchasing a projector for the Council Chambers.
