The Windom City Council and Mayor are asking the community to call or write-in to your City Council Members to express concerns or near accidents concerning the new lane striping. The Council will be meeting with MNDot and want to have your thoughts and concerns to present. Whether you are a tiny tot or in your golden years, there is just something about seeing a Fire Truck that makes you get all excited. In celebration of Fire Prevention Week, there will be a Fire Truck Parade at the Windom Elementary School on Friday October 14th at 2pm. The Fire Engines will be making 2-3 laps around the Elementary School to show off the beautiful engines that keep our community secure.

The Jeffers City Council met on October 10th. The Council reviewed the 2021-22 First Responder Pay Report and approved to pay it. The Council set Halloween Hours for Monday October 31st from 4-7pm, it was stated if you wish to have trick or treaters stop at your house, you are to leave your front porch light on. After discussion on the quotes for a pickleball court in the park, the Council tabled the issue until next month’s meeting. A letter will be sent to a resident with a refrigerator in their yard.

The Minnesota pheasant hunting season opens at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15th. Hunters should check regulations before they head out into the field. Pheasant hunters ages 16-64 must purchase a small game license and pheasant stamp. Also, all pheasant hunters must wear at least one visible article of clothing above the waist that is blaze orange or pink. Bag and possession limits, pheasant transportation requirements, a hunting prospects map and more information are available on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources pheasant hunting page (mndnr.gov/Hunting/Pheasant).

Redwood County Sheriff’s Department reported on the 11th at approximately 10am an 82 year-old-male from Redwood driving a Ram 2500 Pickup was traveling East bound on MNTH 68 near the intersection of 240th St. A 59-year-old male from Richmond was driving a 2015 KW Tractor Truck was also traveling Eastbound on MNTH 68 and proceeded to turn on 240th St. Driver of the Ram stated that the sun was in his eyes when he tried to avoid the KW Tractor Trucks turn, which was wide due to it being a semi. The Ram ran into the rear driver’s side of the trailer of the KW Tractor Truck. The Ram had disabling damage to the front passenger seat side and tractor truck had minor damage. There were no injuries reported.

The Mountain Lake Police Department reported 15 calls in the past week. Police conducted a civil stand-by, handled six reports with vehicle and traffic violations. A set of keys were turned into the police station and a dog at large was handled. On the 6th at 5:02am An officer responded to a report of a fight upon investigation, a 35 year old male from Mt Lake was arrested for violation of an Order For Protection, and a 24 year old female from Butterfield received a citation for assault. Later that evening at 9:15pm a Mt Lake officer responded to a report of a domestic only verbal situation. The parties were advised. An Officer took a report of theft of license plates and on the 3rd officers responded to a missing child at the City Park. The child was found 30 minutes later.
