Windom Police Department reported yesterday in conjunction with the investigation into the bomb threat at the Windom Area Middle High School,  a juvenile from Windom has been charged with Terroristic Threats-Explosives/Incendiary Device. Windom Police officers stated that no items that appeared to be explosive in nature were located during the search of the premises and they do not believe there are any on-going threats to the students, staff and facilities at the Windom Area School District.

Mountain Lake Police Department reported for the past week six calls. On the 28th of March officers handled a Verbal Domestic on March 28th assisted two off road vehicles due to icy conditions and assisted one more off the road motorist in the early morning hours of the 29th due to icy conditions. Also on the 29th officers took a call regarding a child welfare issue. April 2nd officers handled a dog at large call and on April 3rd an Officer assisted another agency on the intersection of Highway 60 and milemarker 47 in Mountain Lake with a driving complaint.

Windom Public Library has a lot going on in the month of April. You can be whisked away to new worlds, win prizes and have your late fees forgiven!!!

April is Fine Free Month. Bring your overdue library books into the library the month of April and they will waive the fines no questions asked. You can get your Artistic groove going with designing a bookmark for the 2022 Summer Library Program- “Read beyond the beaten path” . One bookmark from each age group will be chosen by Windom Library Board members. The four winners will be printed into bookmarks for this summer to be handed out to our library patrons. All bookmarks will be displayed in the library to spotlight your creativity.

All entries become property of the Windom Public Library and contest entries must be submitted on or before April 29th.

Registrations are now being taken for the ATV Safety Training course on Saturday May 7th.  The class will be held at the Cottonwood County Law Enforcement Center and Island Park beginning at 1 PM.  Anyone born after July 1st, 1987, and who  is 16 years or older are required to complete the online  Riders safety course before operating an ATV on public lands, frozen waters, public right of ways or state or grant-in-aid trails.  According to Cottonwood County Investigator Jayd Soderholm, the course will deal with basic operation, common parts and controls, operating safely and responsibility, trail riding, rules and laws, riding skills and protecting the environment.

Students age 10 to 15 are required to complete the Minnesota ATV/OHM Riders Safety Class online prior to the training course.  The online course is at ATV course dot com.  There is a $24.95 fee for the online course paid directly to the online training company.

Turkey hunting begins Wednesday, April 13, and the stream trout opener is Saturday, April 16.

Anyone interested in learning to hunt turkeys or fish for trout is invited to watch how-to webinars previously recorded and posted by the DNR. The webinars on turkey hunting, trout fishing, and a variety of outdoors topics are part of the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series the DNR began in March 2021 to share knowledge relevant to outdoor seasons and activities. Recorded webinars are available online (mndnr.gov/Discover).

Additionally, each year the DNR and the National Wild Turkey Federation cooperate to offer mentored hunts, in which experienced volunteers explain safe hunting techniques, how to call-in turkeys, hunting tactics and field dressing a bird. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) invites the public to attend an in-person construction open house Tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. to learn about two upcoming improvement projects on Hwy 15 and Hwy 15/60 near Madelia. The open house will be held at the Madelia Golf Course Clubhouse located at 519 Christensen Dr. There is no formal presentation planned, and attendees are welcome to arrive anytime.
