On March 20th Windom Police Department were called to the 1100 Block of Elm St for a report of a stolen vehicle.  After investigation, the vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Montana was located in the ditch on Hwy 71.  Matter is still under investigation.  Also in the early evening of the 20th an accident at Remick Ridge parking Lot was reported. A 2016 Nissan Rogue had backed into a dumpster and broke the rear window out. Minor Damage to the Rogue and no damage to the dumpster.

In the morning of March 19th Windom Police Officers were called to 1300 block 2nd Ave for damage done to vehicles overnight.  After investigation, it was found that a vehicle drove by around 1:30am and shot the vehicles with a paint ball gun.  Witness stated the vehicle left the area and turned onto Hwy 60.  Matter is still under investigation

On March 18th Windom Police officers were called to an accident in the McDonalds parking lot, both vehicles sustained minor damage and no injuries were reported. Later that afternoon at 3:19pm officers were requested by Department of Corrections(DOC) to assist with a search of a parole’s apartment due to gathering new information.  After investigation, an arrest was made on a 31-year-old male for probation violation and pending new charges. Then at approximately 4:10pm officers were called to East Hill for a child dispute. After investigation, the child went with the proper parent for the weekend according to court order. At 4:41 pm Officers were called to East Hill for a trespass situation.  After investigation, it was found that the person was allowed to be at the residence.

The Windom Fire Department was called out to a Barn Fire approximately six miles north on County Road 22 on Wednesday March 16th at approximately 10:30 pm. According to Fire Chief Ben Derickson when the crew arrived the west side of the barn was in flames. Firefighters had time to get inside and put out hot spots on the main floor and then made their way up to put out the hotspots upstairs. Chief Derickson said there was extensive smoke damage but the barn itself was still standing. The Fire Crew had everything contained by 1:00am. There were no animals or people injured but one vehicle parked in the barn along with some smaller items sustained damage.

 

The Boy Scouts of America Twin Valley Council will be participating in the annual Scouting for Food Campaign Saturday March 26th. The Scouts are asking that you put donated items in a plastic bag, and place by your front door before 9am  this Saturday morning. Non-perishable, non-expired items are being requested. Types of foods needed are any type of Canned Soups, or Sauces or meals, Dry Pasta and Cereal, Crackers, Hamburger Helper, Condiments. Other items being asked for are Tissues, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Diapers, Baby Formula. Please make sure everything is sealed and not expired. All goods will be distributed to your local food shelf. If you have questions please contact 507-387-3123. Let’s help fill our local food pantries shelves and help our local Boy Scouts. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites anyone interested in fishing , wildlife and outdoor skills to tune into an upcoming webinars.

Fly fishing for steelhead will be the featured webinar on Wednesday, March 23 at Noon. James Burnham, R3 coordinator, and Aaron Gerlovich, a director with Minnesota Steelheader, will talk about the thrill of fly fishing for steelhead in the springtime surrounded by some of the state’s most rugged and picturesque scenery: Minnesota’s north shore of Lake Superior.

The webinar is part of the DNR’s Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series, which aims to give participants quick, relevant information on upcoming seasons and events, as well as skills to enjoy these opportunities. The webinars are free and registration is required.
