As students head back to the classroom, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is looking for volunteers age 55 and older to make a difference through its Foster Grandparent program. Foster Grandparents provide one-on-one mentoring and tutoring for children and youth, helping build confidence while supporting social, emotional, literacy and math skills. Volunteers are asked to serve at least 10 hours per week. No prior experience is necessary, and volunteers receive training, a tax-free hourly stipend and transportation or mileage reimbursement. Program leaders say the rewards go both ways, with volunteers building meaningful connections while making a positive impact on children in their communities. Anyone interested in becoming a Foster Grandparent can call 888-205-3770 or visit lssmn.org/volunteer/fostergrandparent for more information.
