The City of Mountain Lake has posted an update on its Facebook page in response to what officials call misinformation and inaccurate information circulating on social media regarding the proposed data center, the city’s new power plant, and the fiber installation project in Cottonwood County. According to the city, the county-approved fiber ring was not installed to attract a data center and the City of Mountain Lake had no role in its planning or approval. The city also says plans to replace its aging power plant have been in the works for the past five years due to failing equipment, safety concerns, and the increasing cost of maintaining infrastructure that has exceeded its expected lifespan. Regarding the proposed data center, city officials say public hearings were held in October and November of 2025, with notices published in the local newspaper. The city says concerns raised by residents about electric rates, noise, water usage, employment and impacts on the electrical system were researched before the Conditional Use Permit was approved. The city states the data center would purchase electricity at market rates, would not use city water or sewer services, would not have on-site diesel backup generators, and would create a limited number of jobs. The full statement, including detailed explanations and supporting information, can be found on the City of Mountain Lake Facebook page.  Direct Link- https://www.facebook.com/mountainlakemn

The Windom City Council on Tuesday approved the final assessment roll for the 2025 Alley Improvement Project following a public hearing that drew no public comments. DGR Engineering’s Bryce Hunt said the project reconstructed several city alleys identified through Windom’s five-year street review process. Work included new asphalt, drainage improvements, storm sewer installation, and sidewalk repairs. The project cost approximately $675,000, coming in about 33 percent below estimates. About 34 percent of the cost will be assessed to benefiting property owners, with the remainder paid by the city through existing bond funds. The improvements are expected to last 20 to 25 years with proper maintenance.
