The Murray County Board of Commissioners will take up several significant items during its June 16th meeting, including a public hearing on a proposed drainage ditch modification project and a contract related to restoration work at the End-O-Line Railroad Museum. One of the first items on the agenda is a public hearing concerning Judicial Ditch 14 in Leeds Township. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has petitioned the county to modify and partially abandon portions of the ditch on DNR-owned property. According to county documents, the DNR is seeking to impound, reroute and divert water within the drainage system to meet conservation objectives. The proposal would affect portions of Judicial Ditch 14 located in the east half of Section 9 in Leeds Township. The DNR would be responsible for all construction and proceeding costs associated with the project. If approved, the modified portions of the drainage system would remain under the county’s jurisdiction for future inspections and maintenance. Commissioners are expected to consider findings and a formal order following the public hearing. The board will also consider awarding a contract connected to rehabilitation of the historic turntable and pit at the End-O-Line Railroad Park and Museum. Museum Director Nick Demuth is recommending approval of a proposal from LHB Corporation to provide bidding and construction administration services for the project. The work is part of a National Park Service grant-funded effort to restore the historic railroad turntable. LHB previously completed condition assessments and design documents for the project. The firm’s latest proposal includes updating plans, assisting with contractor bidding, and overseeing construction activities. The proposed fee is just under $10,000 and is expected to be reimbursed through the federal grant program.
