Windom Police Department took a report on May 29th at 5:29am of a sexual assault that occurred in the 90th block of 5th Street. According to police report a 47-year-old male of Worthington engaged in sexual contact with another person, knowing or having reason to know that the victim was physically helpless. The male was arrested with Criminal Sexual Conduct in 4th Degree which is a Felony. Windom Police Officers conducted two Warrant Arrests. On the 29th at approximately 11:21pm an officer while on patrol observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 60 by Dairy Queen without Head or Tail Lights. The Offier initiated a traffic stop and after investigation an arrest was made of a 22-year-old male of Brooklyn Center for warrants our of Anoka and Hennipen County. On June 1st at approximately 4:56pm and officer was advised by dispatch of a 57-year-old Windom male that had an active arrest warrant for Failing to Appear for Pre-Trial. Officers went to his residents in the 20th block of 9th Street and after review arrested him on the warrant and he is now being held in jail pending court.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s District 7 Engineer, Greg Ous, will retire in July after 39 years of service. Ous has led the Mankato-based district since 2012, overseeing transportation projects in 13 south central and southwestern Minnesota counties, including the Windom office. During his time as district engineer, major improvements were made to Highways 14, 60, and 169, along with added safety features such as roundabouts and J-turns. MnDOT has named Zachary Tess as the new District 7 engineer. Tess began the role in May and brings more than 17 years of experience with MnDOT, most recently serving as assistant district engineer for program delivery.

The Jackson County Commissioners met Tuesday and approved several items on the consent agenda, including claims, a $15,000 subsurface treatment loan for a septic system in Wisconsin Township, a four-year Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act joint powers agreement, probation policy updates, and the donation of retired information systems equipment to PCs for People.
Commissioners also reviewed upcoming bridge replacement projects on County State Aid Highway 9 between Heron Lake and Okabena. The two bridge projects, estimated at more than $2.3 million combined, are planned for the 2026 and 2027 construction seasons, with discussion centered on how to stage construction and minimize travel disruptions.
In other business, commissioners considered bids for the sale of a 2015 Chevy 3500 diesel dually from Public Works and approved the appointment of John Richard Profaizer as Jackson County Highway Engineer for a one-year term. The board also approved minutes from the previous meetings of both the County Board and Drainage Authority before adjourning.
