Residents in Mountain Lake continue to raise concerns about water quality, and the Mountain Lake Utilities Department says crews are actively working to fix the issue. According to a public service announcement, the city is dealing with aging equipment at the Water Treatment Plant. Officials say the system used to reduce water hardness is currently down due to a faulty part that controls water pumps. Because the equipment is specialized, replacement parts have been difficult to find. Utilities officials are also investigating reports of discolored water. Crews have been flushing fire hydrants across the city to help clean water mains and improve water clarity while engineers and outside specialists work to determine the cause. Despite the issues, Mountain Lake Utilities says the water remains safe to drink and use. Officials say they understand residents’ frustrations and are working to restore normal water quality as quickly as possible.

Changes are being made within the Meals on Wheels program in southern Minnesota, but officials stress the service is not ending. According to Jacqueline Nelson, Senior Manager of Public Relations and Marketing for Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, rising demand and limited funding are prompting adjustments to the home-delivered meals program across LSS’s south region, which includes 22 counties. Nelson says most participants will continue receiving meals at home. However, about seven percent of clients will transition to other meal options, including community dining sites such as the Windom and Mountain Lake Community Centers. Those interested in reserving a meal at a local dining site can call 507-831-6161. Lutheran Social Service says staff are also helping eligible individuals apply for county waivers to continue home-delivered meals if needed. Nelson, says anyone in need of meal services or more information should contact Lutheran Social Service or their local county social services office. Nelson says increased food costs and changes to SNAP benefits may be contributing to higher demand for the program, and community support through donations and volunteers is always welcome.
