Young performers in the Windom area who love acting, singing, or simply trying something new, Storybook Theatre is giving kids entering 1st grade through 8th grade a chance to experience the excitement of putting on a full musical all in just one week and to shine on stage in the musical production of Hansel & Gretel. This fun production is presented by Storybook Theatre and Prairie Arts Continuum. The program takes familiar fairy tales and turns them “on their head” with a fresh, fun, and family-friendly spin. Best of all, organizers say everyone who auditions will receive a role, giving every child a chance to shine on stage. Participants will spend the week learning lines, songs, and choreography before presenting two live performances for the community. Rehearsals will run August 17th to the 20th with performances on Friday August 21st at 7pm and Saturday August 22nd at 10am on the BARC Stage. Organizers stress that all participants must be available for the full week of rehearsals and performances. The cost to participate is $15 per child, and preregistration is preferred, although families may also register at the door. For more information, families can contact Shelley Lange at shellange@hotmail.com or Lynn Peterson at peterson.lynn@rocketmail.com.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will launch a new electronic licensing system for fishing and hunting licenses beginning June 9, replacing a system that has been in place for more than 25 years. The updated system will allow customers to buy licenses through a mobile app, online, or in person, and carry them digitally or on paper. During the transition, fishing license sales will be paused June 2 through June 8, but anglers may fish without a license during that time while all other fishing regulations and limits remain in effect. The new system officially goes live June 9. More information is available at Minnesota DNR ELS Updates.
