The Jackson County Board of Commissioners wrapped up key organizational and policy actions during meetings earlier this month, including setting future elected official salaries and advancing discussion on statewide policy issues. Jackson County Commissioners approved minimum salaries for two elected positions ahead of the 2026 filing period. Beginning in 2027, the minimum annual salary for the Jackson County Sheriff was set at $105,726, while the County Attorney minimum salary was set at $119,912. The board also approved more than $6.7 million in claims, largely tied to public works projects, bond payments, and ditch-related expenses. One policy issue drawing continued attention is the proposed repeal of Minnesota’s moratorium on nuclear energy production. The resolution was tabled earlier this month and returned for consideration during the January 20th meeting. Commissioners also moved forward with labor-related business, including closed-session discussions on labor negotiations and consideration of a labor agreement with Law Enforcement Labor Services, Inc. Local 233. Additional actions this month included approving Staple’s Oil of Windom as the county’s fuel provider for 2026, confirming the Jackson County Pilot as the official legal newspaper, and adopting the county’s 2026 meeting schedule. The Drainage Authority also met, approving its January meeting minutes and continuing routine ditch oversight.
