The Windom Police Department submitted their December 2025 Monthly Crime Report. They had 8 Adult Arrests, 0 Juvenile Arrest and served 6 Warrants with a total of 440 Calls for Service for the month. There were 16 Accidents with 0 injuries and 4 DUI’s. Windom Police Officers issued a total of 152 Traffic Violations and Warnings for the month of October. Have you ever wondered what Cottonwood County looks like from the clouds? The Cottonwood County Historical Society is challenging you to find out. The museum has just announced its 2026 photo show, titled: “Give It Your Best Shot: Focus on Cottonwood County from a Bird’s Eye View.”  Organizers are looking for original photos captured from an elevated perspective. To enter, you’ll need to submit two 8-by-10 prints of your photo on standard photo paper. One copy will go on display in the gallery, while the other will be kept for the museum’s permanent historical collection. There is no fee to enter, but you must register your photograph at the museum by Wednesday, January 14th. The exhibit officially kicks off with a public reception on Sunday, January 18th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and the show will run through late March. Area high school students will be taking the stage later this month as One Act Play competition season gets underway. The Subsection 9 One Act Play Contest will be held Friday, January 24th, at Redwood Valley High School. Performances begin at 10 a.m. at the Estebo Performing Arts Center. Schools participating include BOLD, BLHS, RCW, Murray County Central, Red Rock Central, Redwood Valley, Wabasso, and Westbrook-Walnut Grove. Admission is eight dollars for adults and five dollars for students. Top-placing schools will advance to the Section 3A One Act Play Contest, scheduled for Friday, January 31st, at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School. That contest will also begin at 10 a.m. at the RTR Performing Arts Center. Eight advancing schools from subsection competitions will perform, all hoping to earn a spot at the State One Act Play Festival. The state competition will be held Friday, February 6th, at 9:15 a.m. at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. Whitney Hegg, Subsection 9 Contest Manager, encourages the public to attend and support local students and fine arts programs.   • The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners meets at 9:00am at the Cottonwood County Courthouse in the Commissioners’ Room.
  • The St James City Council will meet at 5:30pm in James City Hall Council Chambers. Meetings can be viewed live or anytime on the City of St James’s YouTube Channel.

The Windom Area Health Foundation will host its first-ever “Be the Light” Gala on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Windom Community Center. The event will raise funds for the Foundation’s Mental Health Fund, which supports mental health professionals, programs, and individuals in the Windom area. The fund has already approved more than $20,000 in local awards. Featured speaker Lindsey Young, Minnesota Vikings staff writer and published author, will share her professional and personal perspective on mental health and the importance of being a light in others’ lives. Guests will enjoy a Hi-Lo Club catered dinner, desserts, and an uplifting winter evening focused on community and connection. Ticket prices are $87 for adults and $44 for students. Tables of six are available at $73 per person, and a VIP experience add-on is also offered. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
