Windom City Officials are warning residents about a new email scam making the rounds. City Administrator Steve Nasby says a resident reported receiving an email requesting a $4,800 wire transfer for permit approval. The message looked official, even using the City of Windom’s logo and address, but it was NOT legitimate. The scam included a fake invoice number and demanded payment only by wire transfer with “contact for instructions” listed. Nasby stresses that the City of Windom does not typically request wire transfers for any payments. If you receive an email asking for money, especially anything outside your normal utility bill DO NOT SEND PAYMENT. Instead, residents should call City Hall directly at 507-831-6129 to verify any questionable request. Again, DO NOT WIRE MONEY without confirming with the City of Windom. The scam appears to have come from a non-City website.

Murray County is asking residents to share their thoughts on the county’s updated Hazard Mitigation Plan, now open for public review and comment through December 23rd. The plan outlines strategies to reduce long-term risks from disasters such as tornadoes, severe winter storms, flooding, drought, and extreme temperatures. County officials say that careful planning helps protect lives, property, and the local economy. Updating the plan also allows Murray County and its cities and townships to remain eligible for future FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance grants. All residents, agencies, and community stakeholders are encouraged to review the draft plan and offer feedback. Comments can be submitted through the online feedback forms located at the bottom of the Hazard Mitigation Plan webpage and the Mitigation Action Charts page. Both links are available on the Murray County Emergency Management website and a QR CODE for quick access to the full interactive Hazard Mitigation Plan website is available by clicking below. Comments, concerns, or suggestions may also be sent directly to Murray County Emergency Management, Carl Nyquist by calling 507-836-1111 or sending an e-mail to cnyquist@co.murray.mn.us The plan is multi-jurisdictional, covering every city and township in Murray County. It also includes input from schools, local governments, businesses, and other partners. The update was completed under the direction of Murray County Emergency Management, working with U-Spatial at the University of Minnesota Duluth and local departments. Proposed mitigation strategies include improving infrastructure in flood-prone areas, creating safe rooms, burying vulnerable powerlines, strengthening emergency communication systems, and increasing public outreach on severe weather preparedness. Residents have until December 23rd to submit their ideas and suggestions before the plan is submitted to the State of Minnesota and FEMA for review to help shape the county’s preparedness for future natural hazards.

I’ve lost many things over the course of the past year and in my lifetime, that is for sure… I found out that today is Lost and Found Day. This day is in place because as the year winds down we begin taking a mental record of everything that has happened and for some reason we find it important to note everything we found and lost in the last 12 months in the dwindling days of the last month of the year. I’m NOT going to bore you with my list… BUT I will tell you I have learned A LOT about people, business, home, friends, family, community, government, and other stuff that my mind is just exploding today… What I have lost is my mind… A lot of socks, all the left-handed gloves that I use to have in past winters, some important papers that I KNOW are somewhere safe… What I have found is a new love for my accountant… friends and family that just always know the right thing to do or say at the right time. How lucky to find that in this imperfect world there really are perfect people even if they don’t think they are. As I speak these words, my poinsettia that was gifted to me last year is blooming bright red for National Poinsettia Day. How cool is that. I planted it outside this past Spring and soaked up the joy of it growing twofold and then dug it back up and brought it in after the first freeze and whalaah the joy of celebrating it today just brings happiness. It’s National Salesperson Day so be NICE to your Sales Reps today.. It really isn’t the easiest job in the world. Maybe one of the most flexible and satisfying on some days but not the easiest. And last but not least… It is National Ding A Ling Day… IT JUST MAKES ME SMILE!!!!
