Happy Halloween!!! Don’t forget to be safe and have fun tonight! There are a lot of different events happing and your place to find all the information is on KDOM’s Community Calendar! There truly is no reason to not get in the holiday spirit and feel the warmth and love of community with all the upcoming Soup and Turkey Suppers!!! It’s time to buckle in as we say goodbye to October fun and enter into Thankful November. AND DON’T FORGET… Before you head to bed Saturday night, remember to set your clocks back one hour. The official change happens at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, when we “fall back” and gain an extra hour of sleep. While many phones and smart devices update automatically, wall clocks, microwaves, vehicles, and other electronics may need to be reset manually. Experts also recommend using the time change as a reminder to check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms, replace batteries if needed, and review your household emergency plan. Again, daylight saving time ends early Sunday morning so be sure to set those clocks back one hour and enjoy the extra sleep!

A late-night theft investigation in Windom turned into a multi-county police pursuit Tuesday night. According to a press release issued yesterday afternoon from Windom Chief of Police Scott Peterson, just before 11:30 p.m. on October 28th, Windom Police were called to the Circle K Convenience Store for a reported shoplifting incident. Officers learned three females had allegedly left the store without paying for more than $84 worth of merchandise and took off in a gray Ford Explorer heading east. Area departments were alerted, and a short time later Mountain Lake Police located the vehicle and attempted a stop. The driver refused to pull over, sparking a pursuit that continued through Watonwan County and into Blue Earth County. The chase ended in North Mankato, where the suspects were taken into custody. Chief Peterson says the theft investigation remains ongoing. Multiple agencies assisted, including the Mountain Lake Police Department, Watonwan County and Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

So I have that song running through my head… I know not a place most people want to be, but I just have to share… You know the song… One of These Things Is Not Like the Others from Sesame Street… You know the lyrics- One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn’t belong… As I was looking at what we were celebrating today I came across- National Door Bell Day, National Carmel Apple Day, National Magic Day, Books for Treats Day and National Breadstick Day… NOW you KNOW why I have that song in my head… It’s Halloween!!! Breadsticks??? Only if you are calling them bones to go along with the Spaghetti that is officially called worms and eyeballs for the day!!! Or I guess that’s what it was in my house of horrors!! Halloween is different than when I was a kid, Do you remember Trick or Treating for UNICEF? I remember collecting coins and feeling good that we were making a difference in the world. I looked it up and UNICEF is still around but you just don’t see kids trick or treating for the cause anymore. This campaign started in 1950 in Philadelphia and this is the 75th Anniversary for the campaign. You can still get the little orange boxes or as everything in this day and age you can participate digitally via a QR code or online fundraising. UNICEF is a global program that funds go toward education, safe water, and emergencies. The good old days where a little went a long way!!!
