A Celebration of Life service to honor the life and legacy of Rosemary Wendland, age 78, of Jeffers, will be held at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom on Sunday, July 13th at 2:00 PM, with a time of visitation and gathering from 12:00-2:00 PM.
Rosemary Wendland passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7th at Our House Hospice in Slayton, MN.

Rosemary (McAllister) Wendland was born on January 11, 1947, in Tacoma, Washington, to the late Otis E. and Mary (Rowe) McAllister. In 1959, she was confirmed and baptized in the Lutheran faith in Winnebago, Minnesota. Rosemary graduated in 1981 with a GED from Fulda High School.
On February 22, 1964, Rosemary was united in marriage to Dale R. Wendland at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers, Minnesota. Rosemary cleaned houses for over 30 years and worked with her mother at the City Café and Jack’s Plumbing & Heating in Jeffers. She managed the Jeffers American Legion Club for over four years, and worked at Plum Creek Food Coop, Sunshine Foods, and Hy-Vee in Windom.
Rosemary was very active in the community. She volunteered with Cub Scouts as a Den Mother and The Girl Scouts. She also helped manage a youth center and served on the EDA in Jeffers. Rosemary was very dedicated to the needs of our veterans, and she was a member of the Jeffers American Legion Auxiliary and later the Lamberton American Legion Auxiliary. She served as the 2nd District President of the American Legion Auxiliary in 2001-02.
Outside of her busy community life, she enjoyed time painting ceramics, playing cards, canning and making wine with her husband, Dale. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and “grandpuppies”. She looked forward to camping, going on cruises, and spending time at the lake.
On July 7, 2025, Rosemary passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the age of 78, at Our House in Slayton, Minnesota, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Left to cherish Rosemary’s memory are her children, Dane Wendland of Albert Lea, Dean (Kevin Becker) Wendland of Palm Springs, CA, Janice (Kevin) Tomschin of Springfield, and Jolinda (Michael) Stoel of Orange City, IA; four grandchildren, Justin (Josephine) Wendland, Wendy Wendland, Trevor Tomschin and Roxanne Tomschin; three great-grandchildren, Jean Rahn, Benjamin Tomschin, and Taylynn Juenemann; brother-in-law, Ronald Kruse; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Dale R. Wendland; parents, Otis & Mary McAllister; sisters, Beverly Jean Hanson and Olive Kruse; brother, Donald & Helen Hanson; parents-in-law, Walter & Selma “Sally” Wendland; and sister-in-law, LaVonne & Emmett Witt.
