Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 40 calls in the week of April 20th to April 26th. Jackson County Sheriff’s office reported 40 calls from April 22nd to the April 28th Deputies conducted several traffic stops, placed Rock Hazard and Swim buoys on Little Spirit Lake, Loon Lake, Pearl Lake, and Clear Lake for the summer season. Deputies attended the Cannabis In Our Community presentation hosted by P.A.T.H.  Guest speakers Heather and Randy Bacchus gave a presentation on losing their 21 year old son to cannabis-induced psychosis and suicide.  Randy and Heather have shifted their life’s work to informing and educating parents and youth on the harmful effects of cannabis on the developing brain.  The Lakefield Fire Dept was paged to a grass fire in Minneota Township.  The Jackson Fire Dept. was also paged for mutual aid.  Crews were on scene for about 3 hours. The Jackson Fire Dept. was paged to a power line pole on fire southwest of Jackson.  Crews were on scene for about 20 minutes. The Jackson Fire Dept. was paged to a grass fire in Middletown Township.  The Lakefield FD, Spirit Lake FD, and Superior FD were requested for mutual aid.  Personnel were on scene for about 1.5 hours. Deputies, Emergency Management, and local Fire Departments conducted severe weather watch due to multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings throughout the county.  Most of the county received pea to marble sized hail.  Radar indicated rotation was observed on radar near the Dundee area. The Lakefield Fire Department was paged to a report of Immanuel Lutheran Church being struck by lightning.  Smoke was observed coming from the roof.  The Jackson Fire Dept. was paged for mutual aid for a full listing of all calls for the Jackson County Sheriff ‘s Office click on link below.

Tonight at 5pm in The Nest Lobby at the Windom Middle High School will be the second of three community information meetings on the Facility Improvement Bond Vote coming up on Tuesday May 13th. On the 13th, Windom Area Schools District voters will be asked to consider a 27.5 million bond question to upgrade fine arts and athletics facilities at the Windom Area High School. If you cannot make it to the voting booths on the 13th you can vote early until May 12th at the Windom School District Office located at 1400 17th Street in Windom. Early voting is available weekdays Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. You can get informed, and get involved. Remember your voice matters and Your vote counts. Please care enough one way or another and get out and vote.

The Friends of the Windom Library will be holding their Annual meeting on Tuesday May 6th at 5pm at Jack Slades. They will have a meal at your own expense followed by the meeting and election of officers for 2025. This meeting is open to new members, or anyone interested in volunteering. I’m getting on my soap box today. The City of Windom does a great service with City Wide Clean up that is taking place on MAY 17th… IT IS NOT TIME TO PUT all your junk out on the curb. There is no reason to put your junk out a month in advance it just gets rained on, blown around and is an eye sore. There I said it.
